Planned roadworks in central southern England: Weekly summary for Monday 5 October to Sunday 11 October 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 4a including the junction 4 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 October for 2 nights. The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 3 including junctions 4a and 4 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 7 October 2015. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A30.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout. For further details visit the scheme page

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints begins this week. Narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions between junctions 6 and 9 until mid-December. For further details visit the scheme page

M4 junctions 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing street lighting starts this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 October for 2 weeks (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: carriageway survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway surveys continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 October for 5 nights.

M4 junctions 13 Chieveley to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: drainage maintenance

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing sections of the drainage system near Chieveley continues this week. Sections of the hard shoulder on both carriageways will be closed 24 hours a day and lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 6 November (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: structure survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structure surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways near Hungerford and Swindon overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 October for 3 nights.

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journeys and reduce congestion continues this week. The M271 southbound (between the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout and junction 3 of the M27), and the M271 northbound (between M271 junction 1 and M27 junction 3) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 4am, from Monday 5 October for 5 nights. M27 junctions 9 Park Gate to 11 Fareham, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing the M27 continues this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 October for 10 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A27.

A3(M) junctions 1 Horndean to 2 Hazelton, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing the A3(M) southbound carriageway begins this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 October for 15 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A272 and A32.

A34 Winchester to Bullington Cross, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound carriageway at Worthy Down continues this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 5 October for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A33/A303 for non-motorway vehicles and via the M3/A303 for motorway permitted vehicles.

A34 Litchfield to Highclere, Hampshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage surveys continues this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads at the Litchfield junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 6 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Whitchurch. In addition, there will be a lane closure on the main A34 southbound carriageway.

A34 Beedon to East Ilsley, West Berkshire: bridge repair

Work to ensure road user safety by strengthening the bridge at Ashridge Farm continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place on both carriageways. In addition, lane 2 on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until the end of October.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016. For further details visit the scheme page

A34 Botley (Oxford) to Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire: barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier will take place this week. Lane 2 of both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 7 October for 3 nights.

A303 Longparish to Andover, Hampshire: signage maintenance

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the road signage takes place this week. Lane 1 of the westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 6 October for 2 nights.

A404(M) junction 9a Maidenhead, Berkshire: vegetation management

Work to improve journeys by cutting back overgrown vegetation from the carriageway takes place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 6 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A404 Burchetts Green (A4130), Berkshire: vegetation management

Work to improve journeys by cutting back overgrown vegetation from the carriageway takes place this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 8 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.
