The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 31 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 3 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 4 January for 5 nights. On Friday work will take place between 10pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30 and A322.

The northbound exit slip road at junction 3 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 6 January for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the M25 to junction 13, the A30 and A322.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until March 2016.

M4 junctions 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: bridge construction

Work to improve access for local communities by installing the bridge deck of the new Shinfield Eastern Relief Road takes place this week. The M4 will be closed in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 6 January for 3 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the B3270 and A329(M).

M4 junction 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: signal maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical maintenance work takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the westbound exit slip road and on the junction 15 roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 7 January for 2 nights.

A31 Bere Regis to Red Post, Dorset: drainage maintenance

Work to improve drainage along the A31 in Dorset begins this week. The A31 will be closed in both directions overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Tuesday 5 January until the end of March (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place from the Roundhouse roundabout via the A350 and A35. Access will be maintained for local residents and managed locally on site.

A34/A303 Bullington Cross, Hampshire: street lighting

Work to provide drivers with safe and reliable journeys by maintaining the street lighting starts this week. Lane closures will be in place on the A34 in both directions and on the A303 eastbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 4 January for 5 nights.

In addition, the following slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, with clearly signed diversions in place via the next available junction:

  • Monday 4 January: A34 northbound exit slip road
  • Tuesday 5 January: A34 northbound exit slip road
  • Wednesday 6 January: A34 northbound entry slip road
  • Thursday 7 January: A34 southbound entry slip road
  • Friday 8 January: A34 southbound exit slip road

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A404 Burchetts Green, Berkshire: resurfacing and barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to surface of the southbound carriageway will take place this week. The southbound carriageway between the A308 Bisham Roundabout and the A404(M) junction 9b will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 7 January. Traffic will be diverted via the M40, M25 and M4. Non-motorway traffic should use the A4155 through Henley-on-Thames and A4130 to Maidenhead.
