Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 30 November to Sunday 6 December 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 27 November but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 3 including the M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 4 nights, and between 10pm and 6am on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30 and A322.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 3 including junction 4a and 4 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 30 November for 4 nights, and between 10pm and 6am on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327, A30 and A322.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until March 2016.

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints continues this week. Narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions between junctions 6 and 9 until mid-December.

Work to maintain safety by replacing communications technology continues this week. The southbound link road from the M3 to the eastbound M27 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 30 November for 15 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M27 junction 2.

M4 junctions 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: new bridge installation

Work to improve access for local communities by installing the bridge deck of the new Shinfield Eastern Relief Road takes place this week. The M4 will be closed in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 30 November for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B3270 and A329(M).

M4 junction 12 Reading, Berkshire: street lighting

Work to improve journeys by maintaining street lighting finishes this week. Various lane closures will be in place on both carriageways and on all slip roads at junction 12 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Wednesday 2 December.

M4 junctions 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: drainage

Work to maintain safety by carrying out drainage maintenance finishes this week. Lane closures on both carriageways will be in place overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Wednesday 2 December.

M27 junctions 10 and 11 Fareham, Hampshire: slip road survey

Work to improve road journeys by carrying out carriageway surveys on slip roads along the M27 takes place this week. The following closures will be in place overnight, between 9pm and 6am:

  • Monday 30 November: junction 10 eastbound entry slip road
  • Wednesday 2 December: junction 11 eastbound exit and entry slip roads

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A3 Liphook to Longmoor, Hampshire: road marking renewal

Work to improve safety by renewing the white lines on the A3 in Hampshire takes place this week. The southbound carriageway between Liphook and Longmoor will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 2 December for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2070.

A3(M) junctions 5 Bedhampton to 3 Hulbert Road, Hampshire: vehicle detector equipment installation

Work to improve road user safety takes place this week by installing vehicle detector equipment on the A3(M). The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2150.

A34 Winchester to Three Maids Hill (A272), Hampshire: structural survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys finishes this week. Lane 2 on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Thursday 3 December.

A34 Litchfield, Hampshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys to the drainage system continues this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads at the Litchfield junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 30 November for 3 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via either the Whitchurch or Highclere junctions.

In addition, a lane of the southbound carriageway and the lay-by areas near the junction will be closed during the same period.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A34 Milton Interchange to Marcham, Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will take place this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 30 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A417, A338 and A420.

A34 Abingdon to Oxford, Oxfordshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys to the drainage system continues this week. A lane on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 11 December (Monday to Friday only).

In addition, the following slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, as follows:

  • Thursday 3 December: northbound entry slip road at Abingdon
  • Friday 4 December: southbound exit slip road at Abingdon

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A303 Hampshire (entire length): barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier will start this week. Mobile lane closures on both carriageways will be in place overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 30 November for 5 nights.

A404 Bisham to Maidenhead, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs to a section of the southbound carriageway takes place this week. The A404 carriageway between the A308 Bisham Roundabout and A404(M) junction 9b will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40, M25 and M4.
