Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: Weekly summary for Monday 28 September to Sunday 4 October 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 25 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 2 including junctions 4a, 4 and 3 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Monday 28 September. The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 3 including junctions 4a and 4 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm to 5.30am, on Tuesday 29 September for 3 nights and between 10pm to 6am on Friday 2 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A30.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures will be in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until autumn 2015.

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints begins this week. Narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions between junctions 6 and 9 until mid-December.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 9 (Winchester) and 6 (Basingstoke) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 4 nights. The southbound carriageway between junctions 6 (Basingstoke) and 9 (Winchester) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 2 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A34, A303 and A30.

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing technology begins this week. The southbound link road between the M3 and eastbound M27 will be closed overnight, from 9pm to 6am, from Monday 28 September for 10 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M27 junction 3.

M4 junctions 5 to 6 Slough, Berkshire: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing street lighting finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm to 6am, until Friday 2 October.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: junction improvement

Work to ease congestion by widening the slip roads and remarking lanes at the junction finishes this week. The A329(M) Reading-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm to 6am, from Monday 28 September for 2 nights, and the A329(M) Wokingham-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 30 September for 2 nights. During these closures clearly signed diversions will be in place via the M4 Junction 11, B3270 Lower Earley Way and the A329 between Winnersh and Wokingham.

M4 junction 11 Reading, Berkshire: structure survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structure surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both the east and westbound slip roads at junction 11 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 3 nights.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: carriageway survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 2 weeks (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 13 Chieveley to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: bridge repair and drainage maintenance

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing sections of the drainage system and also replacing bridge joints and beams at the Chieveley Interchange continues this week. The eastbound carriageway between junctions 14 (Hungerford) and 12 (Theale) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A338 and A4.

In addition, sections of the hard shoulder on both carriageways will be closed 24 hours a day and lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 6 November (Monday to Friday only).

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journeys and reduce congestion continues this week. The M271 southbound (between the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout and junction 3 of the M27), and the M271 northbound (between M271 junction 1 and M27 junction 3) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 4am, from Monday 28 September for 10 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

M27 junctions 9 Park Gate to 11 Fareham, Hampshire: Carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing the M27 begins this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 15 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A27.

A3 Guildford Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing the A3 in Surrey takes place this week. The southbound carriageway between the Dennis Interchange and the A31 Hog’s Back will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 30 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Stoke Road and Farnham Road.

Work to improve road user safety by installing vehicle detector loops takes place this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 1 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Flexcombe.

A3 Weston, Hampshire: sign replacement

Work to improve road user safety by replacing damaged signs takes place this week. The Weston northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 1 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Berelands.

A3(M) junctions 5 Bedhampton to 3 Hulbert Road, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing the A3(M) northbound carriageway takes place this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2177 and B2150.

A34 Winchester to Bullington Cross, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound carriageway at Worthy Down starts this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Friday 2 October for 5 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A33/A303 for non-motorway vehicles and via the M3/A303 for motorway permitted vehicles.

A34 Litchfield, Hampshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage surveys takes place this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 2 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Whitchurch.

A34 Newbury, West Berkshire to M40, Oxfordshire: barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier starts this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways between Speen (A4) and Beedon overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 September for 2 nights. This will be followed by lane closures between West Ilsley (West Berkshire) and Hinksey Hill (Oxford) overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 1 October for 2 nights.

A34 Beedon to East Ilsley, West Berkshire: bridge repair

Work to ensure road user safety by strengthening the bridge at Ashridge Farm continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place on both carriageways. In addition, lane 2 on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until the end of October.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: Junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A34 Botley to Peartree Interchanges (Oxford), Oxfordshire: carriageway survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 5 nights.

A404 Maidenhead, Berkshire to High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire: vegetation management

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation clearance takes place this week. Lane 2 on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 5 nights. In addition, the northbound exit slip road at Burchetts Green will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 2 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Bisham Roundabout.

A404/M40 junction 4 Handy Cross, Buckinghamshire: street lighting

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the street lighting takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 28 September for 5 nights.
