The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 20 January but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: Smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day. The slip road from the M25 junction 12 clockwise to the M3 junction 2 southbound and the clockwise link road from the M25 junction 12 to the M3 junction 2 northbound will be closed, between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday 23 January.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via:

  • northbound: M25 junction 13 turn around and enter the M25 anti-clockwise at junction 13 to M25 junction 12 anti-clockwise to M3 junction 2 northbound
  • southbound: M25 junction 13 via A30 to A322 to M3 junction 3

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including junction 3 entry slip and clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads from the M3 junction 2 northbound to M25 junction 12 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday 23 January for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A322 to A30 to M25 junction 13 to M25 junction 12.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4a including the M25 clockwise slip road and anti-clockwise link road to the M3 southbound, junctions 3 and 4 entry slips and junctions 3, 4 and 4a exit slips will be closed overnight, on Monday 23 January for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 27 January.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via:

  • M3 southbound junction 2 to M25 junction 13 via A30 to A327 to M3 junction 4a
  • M25 clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A327 to M3 junction 4a
  • M25 anti clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A327 to M3 junction 4a

The M3 northbound junction 4a exit slip will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 24 January for three nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 27 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place: Continue on M3 to Jct 4 turn around and exit M3 at Jct 4a southbound.

The M3 junction 2 southbound link road to M25 junction 12 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 24 January for three nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place: M3 junction 2 southbound to M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 to M25 clockwise.

The southbound carriageway between junction 2 and 3 including M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to M3 southbound and junction 3 exit slip will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am on Saturday 28 January.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via:

  • M3 southbound junction 2 to M25 junction 13 via A30 to A322 to M3 junction 3
  • M25 clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A322 to M3 junction 3
  • M25 anti clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A322 to M3 junction 3

M3 junction 7 to 8 Basingstoke, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the southbound carriageway between Basingstoke and Dummer finishes this week. The M3 southbound carriageway will be closed from junction 7 (Basingstoke) to junction 9 (Winchester) overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 27 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30, A303 west and then south on the A34 towards Winchester.

M3 junction 8 Popham, Hampshire: bridge strengthening

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge bearing and support replacement continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place on the link form the M3 southbound to the A303 westbound 24 hours a day until May.

M3 junction 11 Winchester, Hampshire: safety barrier

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier along the southbound slip road finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on the southbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 23 January for 5 weeks (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 5 Slough to 6 Windsor, Berkshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys in preparation for converting the M4 into a Smart Motorway continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways and on the eastbound exit slip road at junction 5 overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 23 January for 5 nights.

In addition, the westbound entry slip road at junction 5 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 24 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the adjacent junction.

M4 junctions 7 Maidenhead to 6 Windsor, Berkshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys in preparation for converting the M4 into a Smart Motorway continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 23, Tuesday 24 and Thursday 26 January.

M4 junction 7 to 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Wednesday 25 January for 3 nights.

M4 junction 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by maintaining the drainage asset at the junction finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound approaches to the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Thursday 26 January.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to refurbish the bridge which carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place on the slip roads and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until November 2017.

The slip road from the M4 eastbound carriageway to the A329(M) Wokingham bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5am, on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8/9 and return.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M4 westbound carriageway continues this week. The westbound carriageway between junction 12 and 13 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 23 January for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

M27 junction 2 Ower (Southampton), Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage asset at the junction starts this week. Lane closures will be in place on the westbound approach to the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 23 January for 5 nights.

M27 junctions 7 Hedge End to 8 Bursledon, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M27 eastbound carriageway continues this week. The M27 eastbound carriageway will be closed from junction 7 to junction 8 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Tuesday 31 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Charles Watts Way, Kanes Hill (A27) and A3024.

M27 junctions 8 Bursledon to 9 Whiteley, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the M27 between Bursledon and Whiteley starts this week. The M27 westbound carriageway will be closed from junction 9 to junction 8 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Thursday 26 February for 4 weeks (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3051 Botley Road, Curdridge, A334 through Botley and Hedge End, re-joining the M27 at junction 7.

M27 junctions 11 Fareham to 9 Whiteley, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M27 westbound carriageway finishes this week. The M27 westbound carriageway will be closed from junction 10 to junction 9 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 27 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Wickham, the A334, Curdridge, Botley and Hedge End.

M27 junctions 11 to 12 Portsmouth, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M27 eastbound carriageway near Port Solent starts this week. The M27 eastbound carriageway from junction 11 to the A27 Eastern Road junction, and the M275 northbound link to the A27 eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Tuesday 24 January for 13 nights (Monday to Friday only). Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A27 for M27 traffic and the A3 Northern Parade for M275 traffic.

A3(M) junctions 3 to 5 Waterlooville, Hampshire: vegetation

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation management along the slip roads takes place this week. The southbound exit slip road at junction 3 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 23 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 5.

The southbound entry slip road at junction 4 and the southbound exit slip road at junction 5 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 25 January. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

M271 Southampton, Hampshire: drainage

Work to ensure road user safety by maintaining the drainage asset finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways between the M27 junction 3 roundabout and the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from until Thursday 26 January.

A3 Liphook, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A3 southbound between Bramshott and Liphook finishes this week. The A3 southbound will be closed from the A31 Hogs Back (Guildford) to Griggs Green will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Tuesday 24 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A31 and A325.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys at the Manorway junction, near the Hogs Back takes place this week. The A3 southbound access for Manorway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Thursday 26 January. A signed diversion will be in place.

A27 Hilsea to Bedhampton, Hampshire: safety barrier

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier along the A27 central reserve starts this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 23 January for 3 weeks (Monday to Friday only).

A34 Oxford, Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve road user’s journeys by resurfacing the northbound carriageway from South Hinksey to the A420 Botley Interchange starts this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the Hinksey Hill Interchange to the Botley Interchange overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 23 January for 3 nights.

The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the Hinksey Hill Interchange to Wytham village (just north of the Botley Interchange) overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Thursday 26 January.

The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the Hinksey Hill Interchange to the Botley Interchange overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Friday 27 January for 2 weeks (Monday to Friday only).

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Oxford ring-road (A4142 Eastern-by-Pass, A40 Northern-by-Pass and A44).

A34 Oxford to Kidlington, Oxfordshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys of the drainage system along the A34 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the north and southbound carriageways between the Peartree Interchange and Kidlington overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 27 January.

A303 Andover to Thruxton, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve road user’s journeys by resurfacing a section of the A303 westbound carriageway from the A343 Hundred Acre/Monxton junction to the Sarson Lane junction finishes this week. The A303 westbound carriageway will be closed from the A343 Hundred Acre junction to Thruxton overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Monday 23 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Weyhill, Ludgershall, Tidworth and the A338.
