Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: Weekly summary for Monday 2 November to Sunday 8 November 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 30 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: Smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 including the M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound and the junction 3 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Monday 2 November and between 10pm and 6am on Friday 6 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30 and A331.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4a including the M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound and the junctions 3 and 4 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 3 November for 3 nights. M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout. For further details visit the scheme page.

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: Bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints begins this week. Narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions between junctions 6 and 9 until mid-December. For further details visit the scheme page.

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing communications technology continues this week. The southbound link road between the M3 and eastbound M27 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 2 November for 10 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M27 junction 2.

M4 junction 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: Structure survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structure surveys finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on all approaches to the junction (M4 slip roads, A404M and A308M) and on the roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 2 November for 2 nights.

M4 junction 11 Reading, Berkshire: Street lighting

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing street lighting continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound slip roads at the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 2 November for 5 nights.

M4 junctions 13 Chieveley to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: Drainage maintenance

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing sections of the drainage system near Chieveley continues this week. Sections of the hard shoulder on both carriageways will be closed 24/7 and lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 20 November (Monday to Friday only).

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: Junction improvement

Work to improve journeys and reduce congestion continues this week. The M271 southbound (between the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout and junction 3 of the M27), and the M271 northbound (between M271 junction 1 and M27 junction 3) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 4am, from Monday 2 November for 10 nights (Monday to Friday only). A3 Surrey: Slip road vegetation maintenance

Work to improve road user safety by managing vegetation on southbound slip roads in Surrey takes place this week. The work will be carried out overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on various slip roads as follows:

  • Monday 2 November: The Burpham exit slip roads
  • Tuesday 3 November: The Stoke exit and Send entry slip roads
  • Wednesday 4 November: The Shackleford exit and entry slip roads
  • Thursday 5 November: The Milford exit and entry and Send entry slip roads
  • Friday 6 November: The Thursley exit and entry and Shackleford exit and entry slip roads

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A34 Bullington Cross, Hampshire: Resurfacing

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by resurfacing the A30 link starts this week. The A303 westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 2 November for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303 Barton Stacey and A34 Three Maids Hill junctions. The northern section of the junction (the A30 link) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, during the same hours, from Wednesday 4 November for 8 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303 Micheldever and A34 Three Maids Hill junctions.

A34 Litchfield/Whitchurch, Hampshire: Drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage surveys takes place this week. The exit and entry slip roads for Litchfield and one lane on the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 4 November for 4 nights (Monday to Friday only). Clearly signed diversions for the slip roads will be in place via Whitchurch and Beacon Hill.

A34 Highclere, Hampshire, to Chieveley, West Berkshire: Drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage surveys takes place this week. Lane 1 of the northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 2 November for 2 nights.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: Junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016. For further details of this visit the scheme page.

A34 Milton Interchange to Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire: Surveying

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys to the drainage system, verges and carriageway surface continues this week. Varied lane closures on both carriageways will be in place overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 13 November (Monday to Friday only). In addition, the following slip roads will be closed overnight:

  • the northbound entry slip road at the Botley Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 4 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Hinksey Hill Interchange
  • the northbound entry slip roads at Abingdon, Hinksey Hill, South Hinksey and North Hinksey will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 6 November. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction

A34 Botley to Peartree, Oxford, Oxfordshire: Surveying

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage and carriageway surveys continues this week. A lane on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 5 November for 6 nights (Monday to Friday only)
