The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 16 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 2 including junctions 4a, 4 and 3 entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327, A30 and M25.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including junction 3 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 22 October for 3 nights. Work on Friday will take place between 10pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and M25.

The M25 clockwise link road to the M3 southbound junction 2 will be closed overnight, between 9pm to 5.30am, on Thursday 22 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout.

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints begins this week. Narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions between junctions 6 and 9 until mid-December.

The southbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 6 and 9 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Thursday 22 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30, A303 and A34.

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing communications technology begins this week. The southbound link road between the M3 and westbound M27 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 October for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M27 junction 5.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: junction improvement and street lighting

Work to ease congestion by widening the slip roads and remarking lanes at the junction continues this week. The slip roads and merge onto the A329(M) Wokingham-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 October for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A329(M) Reading-bound carriageway and the Winnersh Triangle junction. Work is due to be complete by the end of October.

In addition, lane closures will be in place on the main M4 westbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 20 October for 4 nights to allow for street lighting maintenance to take place.

M4 junction 12 Theale, Berkshire: street lighting

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing street lighting continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 20 October for 4 nights.

M4 junctions 13 Chieveley to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: drainage maintenance

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing sections of the drainage system near Chieveley continues this week. Sections of the hard shoulder on both carriageways will be closed 24 hours a day and lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 6 November (Monday to Friday only).

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journeys and reduce congestion continues this week. The M271 southbound (between the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout and junction 3 of the M27), and the M271 northbound (between M271 junction 1 and M27 junction 3) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 4am, from Monday 19 October for 15 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

A3 Surrey: slip road vegetation maintenance

Work to improve road user visibility at slip roads on the A3 carriageway in Hampshire and Surrey takes place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at Milford and Compton will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A3 Surrey: slip road sign replacement

Work to improve road user safety by replacing signs on slip roads in Surrey takes place this week. The Compton southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 21 October. The Liphook southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 22 October. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A3(M) junctions 3 Hulbert Road to 1 Horndean, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing the A3(M) carriageway finishes this week. The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 1 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 21 October. The southbound carriageway between junctions 1 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 22 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3 London Road.

A34 Winchester to Bullington, Hampshire: vegetation management

Work to improve road user visibility at slip roads on the A34 takes place this week. The northbound entry slip road at the A272 Three Maids Hill junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M3 junction 9 roundabout. The northbound A33 Kings Worthy link will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 23 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A34 and A303.

A34 Beedon to East Ilsley, West Berkshire: bridge repair

Work to ensure road user safety by strengthening the bridge at Ashridge Farm continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place on both carriageways until Saturday 24 October. In addition, lane 2 on both carriageways is closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until the end of October.

The northbound carriageway between the Chieveley interchange and East Ilsley will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Saturday 24 October to allow the narrow lanes to be removed. The southbound carriageway between the Milton and Chieveley interchanges will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Sunday 25 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40, A404 and M4.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A34 Abingdon, Oxfordshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage surveys continues this week. A lane on the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 30 October (Monday to Friday only).

A34 Hinksey Hill to Botley, Oxford, Oxfordshire: drainage survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage surveys takes place this week. A lane on the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 October for 5 nights.

A404 Maidenhead, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the southbound carriageway near Burchetts Green continues this week. The carriageway from the A308 Bisham roundabout to the A404(M) junction 9b will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Wednesday 28 October (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40, M25 and M4. Non-motorway traffic should use the A4155 through Henley-on-Thames and A4130 to Maidenhead.
