Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: Weekly summary for Monday 18 May to Sunday 24 May 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 15 May 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M27 junctions 1 (Cadnam) to 2 (Ower), Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for three nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A336 and A326.

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: junction improvement

The following carriageway and slip road closures will be in place overnight, between 10pm and 4am, from Monday 18 May for eight nights:

  • junction 3 eastbound and westbound exit slip roads
  • M271 northbound (between M271 junction 1 and M27 junction 3)
  • M271 southbound (between the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout and M27 junction 3)

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

M27 junction 5 Eastleigh, Hampshire: junction improvement

The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 7.

Narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit will also remain in place until late July. For further details about this scheme visit the road project pages.

M3 junctions 2 (Thorpe) to 5 (Hook): smart motorway improvement

The junction 4a southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 18 May for four nights. The junction 4 northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Monday 18 May and Thursday 21 May.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A30.

Narrow lanes, a contra-flow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016. For further details of this scheme visit the road project pages.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures will remain in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until summer 2015. For more information visit the road project pages.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: slip road resurfacing

The eastbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junctions 5 and 7.

M3 junctions 9 (Winchester) to 13 (Eastleigh), Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

The northbound carriageway between junction 13 and junction 12 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 18 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Woodside Avenue and Allbrook Way.

The southbound carriageway between junction 9 and junction 12 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 19 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8, the A303, A34 and Otterbourne Road.

The southbound carriageway between junction 11 and junction 12 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am on Wednesday 20 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Otterbourne Road.

M4 junctions 8/9 Maidenhead to 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: carriageway repair

Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 19 June (Monday to Friday only). M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: Junction improvement

M4 junctions 11 to 12 Reading, Berkshire: railway bridge repair

Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until July. In addition, 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are also in place.

M4 junctions 12 Chieveley to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: bridge repair

24 hour narrow lanes, a contraflow, overnight lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways between junction 13 and junction 14 until July.

The eastbound carriageway between the slip roads at junction 13 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for four nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place down and across the junction.

M4 junctions 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: drainage/verge repair/road marking renewal

A lane closure will be in place in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 12 June (Monday to Friday only).

A3 Hog’s Back to Milford, Surrey: resurfacing

The southbound carriageway between the A31 Hog’s Back and Milford Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for four nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A31 and A325.

A3 Berelands to Liss, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

The north and southbound carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 20 May for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Winchester Road and the B2070.

A303 Popham, Hampshire: resurfacing

The eastbound carriageway between the A34 (Bullington) and the M3 (Dummer) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, for three weeks from Monday 18 May (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A34, A33 and M3.

A303 Andover, Hampshire: sign maintenance

A lane closure will be in place between the Salisbury Road and the Winchester Road junctions on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Wednesday 27 May (Monday to Friday only).

A31 Palmersford to Merley, Dorset: road marking renewal

The carriageway will be closed in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A347, A3049 and A349.

A31 Bere Regis to Roundhouse Roundabout, Dorset: drainage maintenance

The carriageway will be closed in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for four nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A350 and A35.

A34 Kings Worthy (Winchester), Hampshire: construction of new lay-by

The existing lay-by on the northbound carriageway remains closed and there are lane closures on the northbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, (Monday to Friday) until mid-May.

A34 Bullington Cross, Hampshire: surveying

A lane closure will be in place on both carriageways through the junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for four nights. A34 Chilton to Milton, Oxfordshire: drainage maintenance

A lane closure will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 5 June (Monday to Friday only). For further details of this scheme visit the road project pages.

A34 Milton Interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

The northbound carriageway between Chilton and Milton will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Harwell.

The southbound carriageway will be closed between the slips at Milton overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 18 May for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

Narrow lanes and speed limits of 40mph on the northbound carriageway and 30mph on the southbound carriageway will be in place throughout the week. The left hand lane of the southbound carriageway will be diverted via the slip roads and the A4130 roundabout.

Safety at roadworks:

Highways England is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

  • keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety
  • get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching
  • concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks
  • be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks
  • keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front
  • observe all signs – they are there to help you
  • and be alert for road workers, the roads are their workplace
