Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 17 to Sunday 23 October 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 17 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The M3 junction 2 southbound link road to M25 junction 12 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday 17 October for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 21 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place: M3 junction 2 southbound to M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 to M25 clockwise The southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4a including junctions 3 and 4 entry slips and junctions 4 and 4a exit slips will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday 17 October for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 21 October. The northbound carriageway between junction 4a and 3 including junction 4a entry slip, junction 4 entry and exit slips and junction 3 exit slip will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday 17 October for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: M3 northbound junction 4a to A327 to A30 to A322 to M3 junction 3.

The northbound carriageway between junction 4 and 3 including junction 4 entry slip and junction 3 exit slip will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am on Wednesday 19 October for two nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 21 October and Saturday 22 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: M3 northbound junction 4 to A331 to A30 to A322 to M3 junction 3.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4 including junctions 3 entry slip and junctions 4 exit slip will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am on Saturday 22 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place: M3 junction 3 to A322 to A30 to A331 to M3 junction 4.

M3 junction 13 Eastleigh, Hampshire: barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier finishes this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 21 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M27 junction 5.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to refurbish the bridge which carries the link roads over the M4 at the junction starts this week. Slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 17 October for 4 nights to allow the 24 hour traffic management to be installed. Narrow lane running and a 40mph speed restriction will be in place at the junction from Friday 21 October until November 2017.

Monday 17 October for 2 nights – slip from the M4 eastbound carriageway to the A329(M) Wokingham bound carriageway. Traffic will be diverted via M4 junction 8/9.

Wednesday 19 October for 2 nights – slips from the M4 westbound carriageway to the A329(M) Reading bound carriageway. Traffic will be diverted via M4 junction 11.

M27 Porchester, Hampshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 21 October.

M271 junction 1 Lordshill, Hampshire: development

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety as part of the major Lidl development continues this week. Both exit slip roads at junction 1 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 28 October (Monday to Friday only). Local diversions will be in place.

A3 Weston, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 20 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Petersfield junction.

A3 Liss, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 21 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Sheet junction.

A3 Compton to Guildford, Surrey: road marking

Work to ensure road user safety by renewing the road markings along the A3 continues this week. The northbound carriageway between Compton and the Stoke Interchange at Guildford will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 21 October.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B3000, A31 Hogs Back and Guildford.

A3 Stoke (Guildford), Surrey: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the southbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 18 October.

A27 Warblington to Bedhampton, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 18 October for 3 nights.

A31 St Leonards, Dorset: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the Woolsbridge Roundabout finishes this week. Both carriageways of the A31 between the A338 Ashley Heath roundabout and the Boundary Lane roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Monday 17 October.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A338 Spur Road, West Parley, New Road and Ringwood Road.

A31 Poulner Hill (Ringwood), Hampshire: slip resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the westbound slip roads at the Poulner Hill junction takes place this week. The westbound slips will be fully closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 18 October for 2 nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A31/A338 Ringwood Interchange.

A34 Bullington to Whitchurch, Hampshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the southbound carriageway near Tufton Warren overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 18 October.

A34 Highclere, Hampshire: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings along the A34 continues this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 21 October.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Tot Hill and Speen.

A34 Speen to Chieveley, West Berkshire: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing road markings along the A34 continues this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed from the A4 Speen junction to the M4 (junction 13) overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 19 October for 2 nights.

The following clearly signed diversion will be in place:

  • motorway permitted vehicles – travel west along the A4 to Hungerford, north of the A338 to the M4, then east along the M4 back to junction 13
  • non-motorway vehicles – travel east along the A4 into Newbury, north on the B4009 to Hermitage, west along Priors Court Road to Graces Lane, to rejoin the A34

Access to Moto (Chieveley) Service Area will be available from the A34 southbound carriageway. A signed diversion will be in place.

A34 Oxford, Oxfordshire: road marking

Work to ensure road user safety by renewing the road markings along the A34 continues this week. The northbound carriageway between the Hinksey Hill Interchange and the A44 Peartree Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 18 October for 2 nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place around Oxford.

A303 Andover to Bullington Cross, Hampshire: road marking

Work to ensure road user safety by renewing the road markings along the A303 continues this week. The westbound carriageway between the A34 (Bullington Cross) and the A3093 at Andover (Picket Twenty) will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 18 October for 3 nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30 to Stockbridge then north on the A3057.

A404 Bisham, Berkshire to Handy Cross, Buckinghamshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 21 October.

A404 Marlow, Buckinghamshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the northbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 20 October.
