Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: Weekly summary for Monday 14 September to Sunday 20 September 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 11 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including the junction 3 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 14 September for 2 nights to lift gantries into place. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A331, A30 and M25 junction 13 back to the M3 junction 2.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 2, including junction 4a, 4 and 3 entry slip roads, will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 16 September for 2 nights and between 10pm and 6am on Friday 18th September for a switch in the traffic management. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via junction 4a, the A327, A30 and M25 junction 13 back to M3 junction 2.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures will be in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until autumn 2015.

Overhead sign gantry installation will take place this week on the approach roads to the Black Dam Roundabout. The M3 Spur northbound will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 14 September. The A30 Ringway East eastbound will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 September. The A339 will be closed in both directions overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 16 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A30, A3010 and junctions 5 and 7.

M3 junctions 6 Basingstoke to 9 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge waterproofing

Work to improve safety by replacing the bridge’s waterproof surface and expansion joints begins this week. Narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions between junctions 6 and 8 until mid-December.

The link road between the A303 eastbound carriageway and the M3 northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30.

M3 and M27 Chilworth to Nursling, Hampshire: technology replacement

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing technology systems on the M3 and M27 near Southampton takes place this week.

The link road from the M27 eastbound to the M3 northbound will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 14 September. There will also be lane closures between junctions 3 and 4. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M27 junction 5.

The M27 eastbound carriageway will be closed between the junction 4 slip roads overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M3 junction 12. The M27 junction 3 westbound exit slip road, M3 southbound to M27 westbound link road, and M3 junction 13 southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M27 junctions 2 and 5.

The M27 westbound carriageway between the junction 3 slip roads, the M3 southbound to M27 westbound link road, and M3 junction 13 southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 17 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M27 junction 5.

M4 junctions 5 to 6 Slough, Berkshire: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing street lighting continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 2 October (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: junction improvement

Work to ease congestion by widening the slip roads and remarking lanes at the junction continues this week. The slip roads and merge onto the A329(M) Wokingham-bound carriageway will be closed from 9pm on Friday 18 September through to 6am on Monday 21 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A329(M) Reading-bound carriageway and the Winnersh Triangle junction. Work is due to be complete by the end of September.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing a section of the M4 carriageway finishes this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 and A34.

M4 junctions 12 Theale to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: bridge repair

Work to maintain safety and improve journeys by replacing bridge joints and beams at the Chieveley Interchange continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit are in place on both carriageways between junctions 13 and 14. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 25 September (Monday to Friday only).

In addition, the westbound carriageway between junctions 12 and 14 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 14 September for 2 nights and also on Thursday 17 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3 and A338.

M4 junctions 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: structural survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out a structural survey finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 18 September.

M27 junction 10 Fareham, Hampshire: vegetation maintenance

Work to improve safety by improving sight-lines for road users takes place this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9.

A3 Stoke to Compton Guildford, Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing sections of the A3 carriageway in Guildford takes place this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Stoke Road, Farnham Road and the B3000.

A3 Hog’s Back to Thursley, Surrey: vehicle detector loop installation

Work to improve road user information by installing vehicle detector equipment is taking place this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 17 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A31 and A325.

A3 Hindhead Tunnel, Surrey: routine maintenance

Work to maintain road user safety in the Hindhead Tunnel takes place this week. The northbound bore will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 4 nights. Road users will be diverted through the southbound bore in contraflow with a 40mph speed limit in place in both directions.

A3 Longmoor to Compton, Hampshire and Surrey: vehicle detector loop installation

Work to improve road user information by installing vehicle detector equipment is taking place this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 18 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A325 and A31.

A3(M) junctions 5 Bedhampton to 4 Purbrook, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing the A3(M) northbound carriageway takes place this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2177 and B2150.

A27 Langstone to Warblington, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve road user safety by resurfacing sections of the A27 carriageway in Hampshire begins this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2149 and Emsworth Road.

A31 Poulner Hill Ringwood, Hampshire: vehicle detector loop installation

Work to improve road user information by installing vehicle detector equipment is taking place this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Picket Post.

A31 Ringwood, Hampshire: lighting maintenance

Work to maintain road user safety is taking place this week by maintaining slip road lighting in Ringwood. The Ringwood westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 17 September. The Ringwood eastbound entry slip road and Poulner Hill westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 18 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Ashley Heath and Poulner Hill.

A34 Bullington to Whitchurch, Hampshire: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation clearance along the A34 continues this week. A lane on both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 5 nights.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A34 Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire: lighting maintenance

Work to improve journeys by maintaining the street lighting at the Weston-on-the-Green junction finishes this week. The southbound exit and entry slips will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40 Junction 9 roundabout and the Islip junction. In addition, a lane on both A34 carriageways will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 15 September for 3 nights.

A303 Popham to Bullington, Hampshire: survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out geographical surveys continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 September for 5 nights.

A303 Andover, Hampshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway at Andover and Barton Stacey finishes this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed between the A3093 (Picket Twenty) and the A343 (Churchill Way/Hundred Acre) overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 14 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Andover ring road.

The westbound carriageway will be closed between the A34 (Bullington Cross) and the A343 (Churchill Way/Hundred Acre) overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A34 to Wash Common then the A343 south back to Andover.

A303 Thruxton, Hampshire to Parkhouse Cross, Wiltshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of both carriageways of the A303 near Thruxton Race circuit starts this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 16 September for 6 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A338, A3026 and A342 to Andover.
