Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 14 December to Sunday 20 December 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 11 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including junction 3 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 14 December for 5 nights. Work on Friday will take place between 10pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and M25.

The northbound exit slip road at junction 4a will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 14 December for 5 nights. Work on Friday will take place between 10pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4 and return.

The southbound entry slip road at junction 4a will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 14 December for 5 nights. Work on Friday will take place between 10pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327, A30, and A287 to junction 5.

The southbound entry and exit slip roads at junction 3 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Monday 14 December for 5 nights. Work on Friday will take place between 10pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place the A322, A30 to M3 junction 4 and junction 3 exit. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 4 and return.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: Black Dam improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times across the Black Dam roundabout near Basingstoke continues this week. Narrow lanes, a 30mph speed limit and off-peak lane closures are in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until March 2016.

M3 junction 11 Winchester, Hampshire: lighting maintenance

Work to improve road user safety by maintaining lighting on slip roads in Hampshire takes place this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: junction improvement

Work to ease congestion by widening the slip roads at the junction continues this week. The A329(M) Reading-bound carriageway between the A329 Coppid Beech roundabout and the A3290 Winnersh Triangle will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 14 for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place viajunction 11 and the B3270 Lower Earley Way. Work is due to be complete by Christmas.

M4 junctions 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: structural survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structure surveys takes place this week. Lane closures on both carriageways will be in place overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 3 nights.

M4 junctions 12 Reading to 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: carriageway repair

Work to improve journeys by replacing traffic flow sensors will take place this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 16 December for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journeys and reduce congestion continues this week. The east and westbound exit slip roads, the M271 southbound (between the A3057 Romsey Road roundabout and junction 3 of the M27), and the M271 northbound (between M271 junction 1 and M27 junction 3) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 4am, from Monday 14 December for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

A3 Thursley to Longmoor, Surrey and Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve safety by resurfacing sections of the A3 in Hampshire and Surrey takes place this week. The southbound carriageway between Thursley and Longmoor will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 3 nights.

The northbound carriageway between Longmoor and Thursley will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Thursday 17 December.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A325 and A31.

A31 West Moors, Dorset: slip road survey

Work to improve safety by inspecting slip roads in Dorset takes place this week. The east and westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 14 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Wimborne Road East and Pinehurst Road.

A34 Beedon to West Ilsley, West Berkshire: structural survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structure surveys takes place this week. Lane 1 of the northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 4 nights.

A34 Milton interchange, Oxfordshire: junction improvement

Work to improve journey times and safety by improving the layout of the Milton interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes and a temporary speed limit will be in place 24/7. Work is due to be completed in spring 2016.

A34 Abingdon to Oxford, Oxfordshire: signage

Work to improve journeys by maintaining the road signage along the A34 will start this week. A lane closure will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 7 nights (Monday to Friday only).

A34 Hinksey Hill to Botley (Oxford), Oxfordshire: drainage survey and signage maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out drainage maintenance, and improve journeys by maintaining the road signage along the A34 will start this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 7 nights (Monday to Friday only).

A34 Peartree Interchange (Oxford), Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the surface of the carriageway will take place this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 14 December. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction. In addition, the southbound carriageway between the exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 15 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place down and across the junction.

A34 Islip to Wendlebury, Oxfordshire: structural survey

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys to structure, drainage and carriageway takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the southbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 2 nights. In addition, the entry slip roads at Weston-on-the-Green and the exit and entry slip roads at Islip will be closed during the same hours. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction.

A404 Bisham, Berkshire to Marlow, Buckinghamshire: street lighting

Work to improve safety by maintaining lighting columns will take place this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 14 December for 2 nights.

A404 Burchetts Green, Berkshire to Handy Cross, Buckinghamshire: barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to sections of the safety barrier will start this week. Lane closures will be in place on the northbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 16 December for 5 nights (Monday to Friday only).
