Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 13 February to Sunday 19 February 2017

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 10 February but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The northbound carriageway between junction 4a and 2 including junction 4a, 4 and 3 entry slips, junction 3 exit slip and the M3 junction 2 slip road to the M25 clockwise and M3 junction 2 link road to M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday 13 February for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 17 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: M3 junction 4a to A327 to A30 to M25 junction 13 to M3 junction 2 northbound.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4a including the M25 junction 12 entry slip to the M3 southbound and M25 junction 12 anti-clockwise link road to the M3 southbound including junctions 2, 3 and 4 entry slips and junctions 3, 4 and 4a exit slips will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am on Monday 13 February for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 17 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via:

  • M3 southbound junction 2 to M25 junction 13 via A30 to A327 to M3 junction 4a
  • M25 clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A327 to M3 junction 4a
  • M25 anti-clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A327 to M3 junction 4a

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 including junction 3 entry slip and M3 junction 2 slip road to the M25 clockwise and M3 junction 2 link road to M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am on Saturday 18 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: M3 junction 3 to A322 to A30 to M25 junction 13 to M3 junction 2 northbound.

M3 junction 8 Popham, Hampshire: bridge strengthening

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge bearing and support replacement continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place on the link form the M3 southbound to the A303 westbound 24 hours a day until May.

M3 junction 9 Winchester, Hampshire: drainage surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage surveys around the Winnall Roundabout takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the roundabout and all approach roads overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 14 February for 2 nights.

M3 junctions 9 to 11 Winchester, Hampshire: signs

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage along the M3 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on both the north and southbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 17 February.

M3 junction 11 Winchester, Hampshire: safety barrier

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier along the southbound slip road continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the southbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 24 February (Monday to Friday only).

M3 junctions 12 Chandlers Ford to 13 Eastleigh, Hampshire: signs

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage along the M3 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on both the north and southbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 17 February.

In addition, the southbound exit slip road at junction 12 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 13 February, and the southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 15 February.

The southbound exit slip road at junction 13 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 17 February.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via adjacent junctions.

M4 junctions 5 Slough to 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys in preparation for converting the M4 into a Smart Motorway and to structures along the M4 continues this week. Varied lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 13 February for 5 nights.

The westbound entry slip road at junction 8/9 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 13 February. A clearly signed diversion in place via junction 6 and return.

The eastbound exit and entry slip roads at junction 7 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 14 February. Clearly signed diversions in place via the adjacent junctions.

The westbound exit and entry slip roads at junction 7 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 15 February. Clearly signed diversions in place via the adjacent junctions.

The westbound entry slip road at junction 6 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 16 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 5 and return.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to refurbish the bridge which carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place on the slip roads and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until November 2017.

M4 junctions 11 to 12 Reading, Berkshire: resurfacing, bridge joint and surveys

Work to improve journeys by replacing a bridge joint and resurfacing a section of the M4 westbound carriageway between Moto services and junction 12 continues this week. The westbound carriageway will be fully closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Tuesday 14 for 5 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A33 and A4.

In addition, work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys in preparation for converting the M4 into a Smart Motorway along the M4 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Tuesday 14, Thursday 16 and Friday 17 February.

M4 junctions 13 Chieveley to 12 Reading, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing sections of the M4 continues this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 13 February, and the eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Tuesday 14 February.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

M4 junctions 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M4 takes place this week. Lanes 2 and 3 of the westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 13 February.

M27 junctions 3 Southampton to 2 Ower, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the M27 westbound carriageway continues this week. The westbound exit and entry slip roads at junction 3 will be closed with traffic running in lane 3 only overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 17 February (Monday to Friday only). Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

M27 junction 7 Hedge End to 5 Eastleigh, Hampshire: road markings

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the M27 westbound carriageway takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Wednesday 15 February.

M27 junctions 9 Whiteley to 8 Bursledon, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the M27 between Bursledon and Whiteley finishes this week. The M27 westbound carriageway will be closed from junction 9 to junction 8 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 17 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3051 Botley Road, Curdridge, A334 through Botley and Hedge End, rejoining the M27 at junction 7.

M27 junction 10 Wickham to 11 Fareham, Hampshire: road markings

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the M27 eastbound carriageway takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 13 February. In addition, the eastbound entry slip road at junction 11 will be closed with a clearly signed diversion in place via the next available junction.

M27 junctions 11 to 12 Portsmouth, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the M27 eastbound carriageway near Port Solent finishes week. The M27 eastbound carriageway from junction 11 to the A27 Eastern Road junction, and the M275 northbound link to the A27 eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 17 February (Monday to Friday only).

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A27 for M27 traffic and the A3 Northern Parade for M275 traffic.

A308(M) Maidenhead, Berkshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out surveys along the A308(M) takes place this week. Lane 2 of the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 16 February.

A404(M) junction 9a Maidenhead, Berkshire: vegetation

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation management along the A404(M) takes place this week. The southbound entry slip road at junction 9a and lane 1 of the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 15 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9b and return.

A3(M) junctions 4 to 5 Havant, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. The southbound exit slip road at junction 5 and lane 1 of the A3 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Tuesday 14 February for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A2030 Eastern Road roundabout and return.

A3 Liss, Hampshire: vegetation

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation management along the A3 takes place this week. The northbound entry slip road at the Flexcombe/Liss Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 16 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Petersfield junction and return.

A3 Longmoor to Ham Barn, Hampshire: vegetation

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation management along the A3 takes place this week. Lane 1 of the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 15 February.

A27 Hilsea to Langstone, Hampshire: surveys and vegetation

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation management and undertaking surveys along the A27 takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 13 and Wednesday 16 February.

A31 Ashley Heath to St Leonards, Dorset: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance starts this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 13 February for 5 nights.

A31 Sturminster Marshall, Dorset: vegetation

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation management along the A31 takes place this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A31 near the Roundhouse Roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 13 February.

A34 Bullington Cross to Sutton Scotney, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve road user’s journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 southbound carriageway continues this week. The A34 southbound carriageway will be closed from the A303 (Bullington Cross) to the A272 (Three Maids Hill) overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Wednesday 15 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303 eastbound carriageway, then south on the A33 Basingstoke Road.

The A34 southbound carriageway will then be closed from the A303 (Bullington Cross) to the M3 junction 9 roundabout overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Thursday 16 February for 3 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303 eastbound carriageway, south on the A33 Basingstoke Road, then along the B3047 and through Winchester.

A34 Newbury, West Berkshire to Tothill, Hampshire: road markings

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the A34 takes place this week. The A34 southbound carriageway from the A339 Donnington Link to Tothill will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Wednesday 15 February for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Newbury.

A34 Chieveley to Speen, West Berkshire: road markings

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the A34 takes place this week. The A34 southbound carriageway from the Chieveley junction (M4 junction 13) to the A4 (Speen) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Friday 17 February for 3 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Newbury.

A34 Oxford, Oxfordshire: resurfacing and street lighting

Work to improve road user’s journeys by resurfacing the A34 northbound carriageway around Oxford continues this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the Hinksey Hill Interchange to the Botley Interchange overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 24 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Oxford ring-road (A4142 Eastern-by-Pass, A40 Northern-by-Pass and A44).

A34 Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve road user’s journeys by resurfacing a damaged section of the A34 southbound carriageway takes place this week. The A34 southbound carriageway will be closed from the M40 junction 9 roundabout to Islip overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Friday 17 February.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via M40 junction 8a and the A40 (for motorway permitted vehicles) and via the A4095 and A44 between Bicester and Peartree (for non-motorway vehicles).

A303 Popham to Bullington, Hampshire: vegetation

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation management along the central reservation takes place this week. Lane 2 of the east and westbound carriageways will be closed during off-peak daytime hours, from Monday 13 February for 5 days.

A404 / M40 junction 4 High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing damaged parts on selected lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on all approaches to the junction and on the roundabout overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 13 February
