Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 12 to Sunday 18 December 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 9 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: Smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The M3 junction 2 southbound link road to M25 junction 12 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 December for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 16 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place: M3 junction 2 southbound to M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 to M25 clockwise.

The northbound carriageway between junction 4 and 2 including junction 4 and 3 entry slips, junction 3 exit slip and junction 2 northbound clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 December for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 16 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via: M3 junction 4 to A331 to A30 to M25 junction 13 to M3 junction 2 northbound.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 including the M25 clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound, junctions 3 entry slip and junctions 3 and 4 exit slips will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 December for four nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 16 December and Saturday 17 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via:

  • M3 southbound junction 2 to M25 junction 13 via A30 to A331 to M3 junction 4
  • M25 clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A331 to M3 junction 4
  • M25 anti clockwise junction 13 via A30 to A331 to M3 junction 4

The southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4 including junctions 3 entry slip and junctions 4 exit slip will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am on Saturday 17 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place: M3 junction 3 to A322 to A30 to A331 to M3 junction 4.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: drainage survey and street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage surveys and maintaining lighting columns around junction 6 finishes this week. Lane closures will be in place on all approaches to junction 6 and the Black Dam roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 16 December.

In addition, the link between the Black Dam roundabout and junction 6 will be closed in both directions overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 15 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 5 and the A30 London Road.

M3 junction 14 Chilworth, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance continues this week. The southbound link from the M3 to the M27 eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Wednesday 14 December for 4 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M27 junction 3.

M4 junction 8/9 Maidenhead, Berkshire: street lighting and drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by replacing damaged parts on selected lighting columns takes place this week. The westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, until Tuesday 20 December (Monday to Friday only).

In addition, the eastbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, until Wednesday 14 December. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to refurbish the bridge which carries the link roads over the M4 continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place on the slip roads and a 50mph speed limit is in place on the M4 carriageway until November 2017.

M4 junctions 13 to 12 Chieveley to Theale, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing sections of the M4 near Frilsham continues this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Wednesday 12 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Thursday 15 December for 3 nights (Monday to Friday only).

In addition, lane closures will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 12 December for 5 nights.

M4 junction 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by maintaining lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on all approaches to the junction on the M4 and A34 overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Friday 16 December.

In addition, the A34 northbound exit and entry slip roads into the Moto service area will be closed during the same period. A diversion will be in place via the opposite service area access (A34 southbound link).

M27 junction 5 Eastleigh, Hampshire: resurfacing and street lighting

Work to improve journeys by maintaining lighting columns and resurfacing the section of the eastbound carriageway across junction 5 finishes this week. The eastbound carriageway between the exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 12 December for 5 nights. Traffic will be diverted down and across the junction.

In addition, a lane closure will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 14 December.

M27 junction 8 Bursledon, Hampshire: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by maintaining lighting columns takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 12 December.

A3 Petersfield, Hampshire: bridge maintenance

Work to maintain journeys by replacing bridge joints takes place this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed between the exit and entry slips at the A272 junction overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Tuesday 13 December for 4 nights.

Traffic will be diverted off the A3, across the roundabout, re-joining the A3 via the entry slip road.

A3 Hindhead Tunnel, Surrey: electrical maintenance

Work to ensure road user safety by carrying out electrical work in both bores of the tunnel takes place this week. The northbound tunnel will be fully closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 14 December. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via Longmoor, A325, A31 to Hogs Back.

The southbound tunnel will be fully closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 15 December. A clearly signed diversion route will be place via the Hogs Back, A31, A325 to Longmoor.

A3 Milford, Surrey: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by maintaining lighting columns takes place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 15 December.

In addition, the southbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Friday 16 December. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A34 Bullington, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the A34 southbound carriageway starts this week. The southbound carriageway will be fully closed from the A303 (Bullington Cross) to the A272 (Three Maids Hill) overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 12 December for 8 nights (Monday to Friday only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303, A33 and M3.

A34 Speen, West Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the northbound slip roads at the junction starts this week. The slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 15 December for 3 nights (Monday to Friday only). Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A34 Abingdon, Oxfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the northbound carriageway continues this week. The A34 northbound carriageway will be closed from the A4130 Milton Interchange to Sunningwell overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Tuesday 20 December (Monday to Friday only).

A clearly signed diversion will be in place along Marcham Road, Colwell Drive, Dunmore Road and Oxford Road, re-joining the A34 at Sunningwell.

A34/M40 junction 9 Wendlebury, Oxfordshire: street lighting

Work to maintain road user safety by maintaining lighting columns takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on all approaches to the junction overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 13 December.

A303 Andover, Hampshire: road markings

Work to ensure safety by renewing the road markings along the A303 takes place this week. The westbound exit and entry slip roads at the A3057 Winchester Road junction and lane 1 of the main westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 12 December. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A404/M40 junction 4 Handy Cross, Buckinghamshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out repairs to the roundabout surface takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the Handy Cross roundabout and approach roads overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 14 December.
