Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: weekly summary for Monday 12 September to Sunday 18 September 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 9 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The southbound M3 will be closed between junctions 2 and 4a overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 13, A30, A327 to M3 junction 4a.

M3 junction 9 / A34 Winchester, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the Winnall Roundabout will start this week. The roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 12 September for 2 weeks (Monday to Friday only). The following approach roads will also be closed during the same period:

  • A34 southbound from A303 Bullington Cross junction to the Winnall roundabout
  • A33 Kings Worthy link southbound from B3047 London Road
  • Easton Lane from the Tesco roundabout to Winnall roundabout
  • A272 Spitfire Link northbound from the A31 Petersfield Road roundabout
  • M3 junction 9 north and southbound exit slip roads

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place for all closures.

M3 junction 11 Winchester, Hampshire: barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier along the southbound slip road finishes this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Tuesday 13 September. There will be narrow lanes in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the scheme. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 10.

M4 junction 7 Maidenhead, Berkshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys along the M4 continues this week. The westbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction as well as lanes 1 and 2 of the main westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 14 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via junction 6 and junction 8/9.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: lighting

Work to maintain safety by maintaining the street lighting along the M4 takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the east and westbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 12 September for 4 weeks (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 11 to 12 Reading, Berkshire: surveys

Work to improve journeys by carrying out structural surveys along the M4 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 12 September; and on the westbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Tuesday 13 September.

The lane closures will close the exit slip road to Reading Services; the next available services will be Chieveley or Heston.

M27 junctions 9 Whiteley to 10 Wickham, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will start this week. Lane 1 of the westbound carriageway and the westbound exit slip road at junction 9 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 12 September for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8.

M27/M275/A27 Portsmouth, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing sections of the westbound carriageway near the Portsbridge interchange will start this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed from the A2030 Eastern Road junction (on A27) to M27 junction 11, and the link from the M275 northbound carriageway to the M27 westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Tuesday 13 September for 11 nights (Monday to Friday only).

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A2030 Eastern Road, Havant Road, Southampton Road and Porchester Road.

Traffic from the M275 will join the main diversion from the eastbound M27 at the A2030 eastern Road junction. A3 Horndean to Chalton, Hampshire: signage

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage along the A3 takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the north and southbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 12 September for 5 nights.

A3 Liphook, Hampshire: signage

Work to keep road users informed by maintaining the signage along the A3 takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the southbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September.

A3(M) junction 2 Hazelton to 5 Bedhampton, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain safety by carrying out drainage maintenance takes place this week. Lane closures will be in place on the north and southbound carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 12 September for 4 nights.

A34 / M4 junction 13 Chieveley, West Berkshire: road markings

Work to maintain safety by renewing the road markings along the A34 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the north and southbound carriageways, on the approaches to the junction and on the roundabout overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 12 September for 5 nights.

In addition, the northbound slip from the roundabout to Graces Lane will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Thursday 15 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via West Ilsley and Beedon.

A34 Abingdon (North), Oxfordshire: road marking

Work to ensure safety by renewing the road markings along the A34 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the southbound carriageway and the southbound exit slip road at the junction will be fully closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 16 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A415 Marcham interchange.

A303 Andover (Monxton), Hampshire: lighting

Work to maintain safety by maintaining the street lighting along the A303 takes place this week. A lane closure will be in place on the eastbound carriageway and slip roads at the Hundred Acre junction overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 12 September.
