The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 September 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 5 Watford, Hertfordshire: resurfacing/litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing and litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4, the A41 and return.

The southbound exit slip and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 4, the A41 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 6 and return.

M1 junction 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The dedicated link roads from the M1 southbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 8 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M1 junction 6 and the A405 to M25 junction 21a.

M3 junction 2 (M25), Surrey: sign maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The dedicated link roads from the M3 in both directions to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 7 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 13 and return.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways, with a free recovery services operating 24 hours a day. The M3 carriageway in both directions between the slip roads at junction 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion for southbound traffic will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return. A clearly signed diversion for northbound traffic will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 13 and return.

The M3 southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4a will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 7 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13, A30, A327 to M3 junction 4a.

The M3 northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 7 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322 and A30 to M25 junction 13.

M4 junction 4 Heathrow Spur Road, Greater London: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 7 September and Sunday 11 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 3.

M4 junction 4b (M25) Berkshire: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections will start this week. The dedicated link roads from the M4 in both directions to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 14 and return.

M25 junction 3 Swanley, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 8 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

M25 junction 9 Leatherhead, Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 7 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8 and return.

M25 Cobham Motorway Service Area, Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 6 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9 and return.

M25 junctions 10 (A3) to 11 Chertsey, Surrey: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line continues this week. The clockwise carriageway and junction 10 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 10 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3, A245, A320 and A317 to junction 11.

M25 junction 11 Chertsey, Surrey: sign maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 8 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 10 and return.

M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: sign maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M3 junction 1 and return.

The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 13 and return.

M25 junction 15 (M4), Berkshire: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M4 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 14 and return.

M25 junction 16 (M40), Buckinghamshire: vegetation cutting and planting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation cutting and planting will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the M40 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 17 and return.

M25 junction 17 Chorleywood, Buckinghamshire: vegetation cutting and planting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation cutting and planting will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 16, M40 to junction 1 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 18 and return.

M25 junction 21 (M1), Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M1 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 and Thursday 8 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 20 and return.

M25 junction 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 22 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 20 and return.

The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 20 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 22 and return.

M25 junction 23 (A1M), Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacements on the structure over the A1(M) continues this week. The southern section of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) to Stirling Corner and return.

M25 junction 25 Enfield, Greater London: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 8 September for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.

M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: safety barrier repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out barrier repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M11 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 26 and return.

M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 29 and return.

The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads at the junction.

M25 junctions 30 Thurrock to 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The northbound link road between junctions 31 and 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306 and A1012 to M25 junction 30.

The clockwise main carriageway between junctions 30 and 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 6 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road at junction 30 and the link road to junction 31.

The dedicated southbound link road between junctions 30 and 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 8 September for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13 to Wennington and A1306 to M25 junction 31.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out maintenance will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 9am, on Saturday 10 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.

M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: vegetation cutting and planting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation cutting and planting will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M40 eastbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M40 junction 1 and return.

A3 Hook to Esher, Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A243 southbound, M25 junction 9 and the A244 via Oxshott to Esher.

A3 Esher, Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Painshill junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Tolworth junction and return.

The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Tolworth junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Painshill junction and return.

A3 Painshill, Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 7 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the M25 junction 9 roundabout and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Esher junction and return.

The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 8 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Esher junction and return.

A3 (M25), Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Ockham junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Painshill junction and return.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 7 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.

The eastbound A13 exit slip road to M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A126 and A13 to M25 junction 30.

The eastbound A13 between Wennington (A1306) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 6 September and Thursday 8 September, and between 11pm and 6am on Friday 9 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.

A13 North Stifford, Essex: electrical repair

Work to carry out electrical repairs will start this week. The eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 30 and return.

A23 London Road North, Merstham, Surrey: gas upgrade

Work by SGN to maintain safety by carrying out gas network upgrades continues this week. One lane (of two) will be closed northbound adjacent to Glebe Road, 24 hours a day, until mid-September. A 40mph temporary speed limit will be in place for the duration of the work.

A30 Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey: carriageway lining

Work to maintain safety by carrying out carriageway lining will start this week. The A30 westbound link road to the Crooked Billet Roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 8 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30 to M25 junction 13 and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures.

  • Monday 5 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 6 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 7 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 8 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 9 September (9.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Saturday 10 September (9pm to 6am) northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 11 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel

The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed, overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 September for 4 nights, between 11pm and 6am on Friday 9 September, and between 10pm and 9am on Saturday 10 September.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Saturday 10 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.

The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 9am, on Saturday 10 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A206, B255 and the A296 to junction 1b.

A282 junctions 1a Swanscombe to 1b Dartford, Kent: structural maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural maintenance on the bridge that carries the A282 over the South Eastern Railway line will start this week. Three of four lanes will be closed southbound (clockwise), including the junction 1a entry slip road, overnight between 10pm and 9am, on Saturday 10 September.
