The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 October 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M4 junctions 1 Chiswick to 3 Hounslow, Greater London: drainage work

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will continue this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 5 October for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 5 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 and A312.

M4 junction 5 Colnbrook, Berkshire: carriageway repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway repairs will start this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 5 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6.

M25 junction 3 Swanley, Kent: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M25 clockwise to junction 4. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 2.

The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4.

M25 junctions 4 to 5 Sevenoaks, Kent: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 8 October for 2 nights and also on Sunday 11 October. Work on Friday night will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A224, the A25 and the A21.

M25 junction 16 (M40) Buckinghamshire: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work and routine maintenance will start this week. The clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M40 westbound will be closed overnight, between 10.30pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40 eastbound junction 1.

M25 junction 20 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement work

Work to improve journeys by replacing bridge joints continues this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9.30pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 October for 5 nights. Work on Friday night will start at 10pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 18 and return.

M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M25 clockwise to junction 24 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 22.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: carriageway resurfacing and structure maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing and structure maintenance will continue this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 October for 7 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30.

M26 junction 2a Wrotham, Kent: roundabout work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out works on the roundabout continues this week. The eastbound exit slip road and westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Saturday 10 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M20 junction 4 and return.

M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work and routine maintenance will start this week. The westbound link roads to the M25 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 5 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

A1 Rowley Lane, Greater London: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by sweeping the carriageway will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 5 October, for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A5135 to Sterling Corner.

The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 5 October, for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Sterling Corner.

A1 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 5 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) northbound to junction 2 or via the A1081 and A1000 to Sterling Corner.

A1(M) junction 1 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 7 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Borehamwood.

A1(M) junction 2 Welham Green, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by sweeping the carriageway will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 9 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1001 northbound to junction 3.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington and North Stifford, including the entry slip road from the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 October for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1012.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford and Wennington, including the entry slip roads from the A126 and the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 8 October for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1306.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance/Dart Charge construction work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 October for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 1a exit and entry slip roads.

The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8.30pm and 5.30am, from Friday 9 October for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 9.30pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.

The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Sunday 11 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b.

A282 (M25) Dartford to Thurrock Crossing: maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures. The closure of the QEII Bridge will divert traffic via the eastern bore of the Dartford Tunnels.

  • Monday 5 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 6 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 7 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 8 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 9 October (9.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Saturday 10 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 11 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel

The QEII Bridge will have 3 (of 4) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 October for 7 consecutive nights.

A1089 Tilbury, Essex: horticulture work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out horticultural work will start this week. The eastbound exit slip road to the A126 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 8 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Dock Road roundabout.

The westbound entry slip road from the A126 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 8 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Calcutta Road and the A1089 to Dock Road roundabout.
