The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 2 December 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junctions 4 Elstree to 1 (A406), Greater London: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacements on the structure that carries M1 over the Thameslink railway line will start this week. The southbound carriageway (including the London Gateway entry slip road) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 6 December for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41 and A406 to M1 junction 1.

M1 junction 6 Bricket Wood to 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: bridge inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out a bridge inspection will start this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 6 December for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A405, A41, M25 junction 20 and M25 clockwise to junction 21 and the M1. The dedicated link road from the M1 southbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5pm, from Tuesday 6 December for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion for M25 clockwise traffic will be in place via the M1 southbound to junction 6, A405 and M25 junction 21a. A clearly signed diversion for M25 anti-clockwise traffic will be in place via the M1 southbound to junction 6, A405, A41 and M25 junction 20.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: Smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The southbound link road at junction 2 to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 December and Thursday 8 December for 2 nights. Work on Friday night will be between 8pm and 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return. The northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and M25 junction 13.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Saturday 10 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A331, A30 and M25 junction 13. The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13, A30 and the A331.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Saturday 10 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and A331 to M3 junction 4.

M4 Spur Road Heathrow Airport, Middlesex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound spur road between Tunnel Road East and M4 junction 4 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 6 December for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4, A312 and M4 junction 3.

M25 junction 5 Sevenoaks, Kent: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A21 northbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 7 December for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 4 and return.

M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 6 December. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 11 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 9 and return.

The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 7 December. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 9 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 11 and return.

M25 junctions 10 (A3) to 11 Chertsey, Surrey: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line continues this week. The clockwise carriageway and junction 10 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 10 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3, A245, A320 and A317 to junction 11.

M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: Smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week. The clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13, A30 and the A331.

M25 junction 17 Chorleywood, Hertfordshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 8 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 18 and return.

M25 junction 18 Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 19 and return.

M25 junctions 21a – 21 St Albans to M1, Hertfordshire: bridge inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out a bridge inspection will start this week. The M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 6 December for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A405, A41 and M25 junction 20.

M25 junctions 22 London Colney to 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 2 nights and from Saturday 10 December for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1081, A414, A1(M) junction 3 and A1(M) southbound to M25 junction 23.

M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the M11 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 6 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 28 and return.

M25 junctions 29 (A127) to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 8 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A127, A128 and A13 to M25 junction 30.

M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 9 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, A128 and the A127 to M25 junction 29.

M25 junctions 30 Thurrock to 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 6 December for 2 nights and between 11pm and 6am on Friday 9 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road, junctions 30 to 31 link road and junction 31.

M25 junctions 31 Lakeside to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 31 link road to junction 30.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: bridge maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out maintenance work will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.

A1(M) junction 1 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

A2 Dartford Heath, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 5 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the A223 Black Prince Interchange and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A2 eastbound to the M25 junction and return. The eastbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 6 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the M25 junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the A2 westbound to the A223 Black Prince Interchange and return.

A2 Darenth Interchange, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 7 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B255 Bean Interchange and return.

A3 Ockham, Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 8 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Burpham, A3100, A3 northbound and the B2215.

A3 (M25), Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 5 December. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via the Painshill junction and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via the Ockham junction and return.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The A13 eastbound between the A1306 (Wennington Interchange) and the A1012 (North Stifford) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 7 December for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012 to North Stifford.

The A13 westbound between the A1012 (North Stifford) and the A1306 (Wennington Interchange) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 2 nights and between 11pm and 6am on Friday 9 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, A1306, M25 junction 31 and A1306.

A20 Swanley Interchange, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 9 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M20 to junction 2 and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:

  • Monday 5 December (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 6 December (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 7 December (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 8 December (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 9 December (9pm to 5.30am) northbound west tunnel
  • Saturday 10 December (8.30pm to 6am) northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 11 December (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel

The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 5 December for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Friday 9 December and between 8.30pm and 6am on Saturday 10 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.
