Planned roadworks in and around the M25: Weekly summary for Monday 27 July - Sunday 2 August

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 23 July 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 2 Barnet, Greater London: structure maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structure maintenance will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 27 July for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1, the A406 and A41 northbound to the A1 interchange.

M1 junction 6 Harlow, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway resurfacing will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 27 July for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A405, A41 to join the M1 at junction 5.

The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 30 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 5 and return.

M4 junction 2 Staines, Greater London: structure strengthening work

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out structure strengthening continues this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 27 July for 5 nights and on Sunday 2 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 3 and the A312.

M4 junction 5 Colnbrook, Berkshire: technology work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out technology work starts this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 27 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6.

M20 junction 1 Swanley, Kent: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The eastbound exit slip road and the north-west quadrant of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 28 July for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20 eastbound at Crittall’s Corner, A223, A2, M25 clockwise to junction 3.

The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 28 July for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2173 London Road onto the A20 westbound.

Road users wishing to access the M25 anti-clockwise from the A20 London Road will be diverted via the M25 clockwise to junction 4 and return.

M25 junction 3 Swanley, Kent: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road and the southern section of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 27 July. Clearly signed diversions will be in place as below:

  • traffic wishing to access the B2173 London Road will be diverted via junction 2, A2 westbound, A223 onto the B2173
  • traffic wishing to access the A20 westbound will be diverted via junction 2, A2 westbound, A223 to Crittall’s Corner onto the A20
  • traffic wishing to access the M20 eastbound will be diverted via junction 2 and return
  • traffic wishing to access the A20 London Road will be diverted via junction 2, A2 westbound, A2018 and A225 onto the A20 London Road
  • traffic travelling from the B2173 London Road wishing to access the M25 clockwise will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 2 and return
  • traffic travelling from the A20/M20 eastbound wishing to access the M25 clockwise will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 2 and return
  • traffic travelling from the M25 clockwise wishing to access the B2173 London Road will be diverted via the M25 junction 4, A224 and A223
  • traffic travelling from the M25 clockwise wishing to access the A20 westbound will be diverted via the M25 junction 4, A224, Crittall’s Corner onto the A20 eastbound
  • traffic travelling from the A20/M20 wishing to access the B2173 will be diverted via the A20 London Road, A225, A2018 and A223

The north-west quadrant of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 28 July for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place as below:

  • traffic from A20/M20 eastbound will be diverted in advance via the A20 eastbound at Crittall’s Corner, A223, A2, M25 clockwise to junction 3 roundabout
  • traffic wishing to access the A20 westbound will be diverted via the B2173 London Road onto the A20 westbound
  • traffic from A20 London Road wishing to access the M25 anti-clockwise will be diverted via M25 clockwise to junction 4 and return
  • traffic from the A20 London Road wishing to access the M20 eastbound will be diverted via the B2173, A223, A2 eastbound, M25 junction 2 clockwise and the dedicated link road to the M20 eastbound
  • traffic from the M25 anticlockwise wishing to access the M20 eastbound will be diverted via the B2173, A223, A2 eastbound, M25 junction 2 clockwise and the dedicated link road to the M20 eastbound
  • traffic from the B2173 wishing to access the M25 will be diverted via the B2173, A223, A2 eastbound onto the M25 at junction 2
  • traffic from the B2173 wishing to access the M20 eastbound or A20 London Road will be diverted via the B2173, A223, A2 eastbound, M25 junction 2 clockwise and return

M25 junction 7 (M23), Surrey: structure maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structure maintenance will start this week. The anti-clockwise link roads to the both directions of the M23 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 28 July for 6 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6.

M25 junction 9 Leatherhead, Surrey: carriageway surface treatment

Work to improve safety by carrying out anti-skid surfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 29 July for 5 nights. Work on Friday starts at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8.

M25 Heathrow Terminal 5: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve safety by carrying out carriageway resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 27 July for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 13 and return.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: QEII Bridge resurfacing work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 27 July for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30.

M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing starts this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 27 July for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1.

A1(M) junctions 2 – 4 Hatfield Tunnel, Hertfordshire: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance and fan replacement work will start this week. The southbound carriageway and entry slip roads at junctions 3 and 4 will be closed overnight, between 10.30pm and 5am, on Wednesday 29 July and Friday 31 July. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1001.

The northbound carriageway and entry slip roads at junctions 2 and 3 will be closed overnight, between 10.30pm and 5am, on Thursday 30 July and from Saturday 1 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1001.

A1(M) junction 5 Lemsford, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 27 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B197, B653 and A6129 to join the A1(M) at junction 4.

A3 Esher, Surrey: Ride London/Surrey Event

The north and south bound exit slip roads will be closed, between 5am and midnight, on Sunday 2 August, due to the Ride London/Surrey event. Additional local road closures will also be in place. For further information, please visit the event website.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford and Wennington, including the entry slip roads from the A126 and the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 27 July for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1306.

A20 London Road, Swanley, Kent: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The westbound carriageway between the Teardrop Centre roundabout and the M25 junction 3 roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 27 July. Clearly signed diversions will be in place as below:

  • traffic wishing to access the M25 will be diverted via the A20 London Road eastbound, A225, A2018, A2 eastbound onto the M25 at junction 2
  • traffic wishing to access the A20/M20 will be diverted via the A20 London Road eastbound, A225, A2018, A223 to Crittall’s Corner onto the A20

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain journeys by carrying out tunnel maintenance will continue this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8:30pm and 5.30am, from Friday 31 July for 2 nights. Work on Friday night will start at 9.30pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The following closures will be in place, with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures.

  • Monday 27 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 28 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 29 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 30 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel closure
  • Friday 31 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel closure
  • Saturday 1 August (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel closure
  • Sunday 2 August (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel closure

The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 20 July for 5 nights.
