The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 16 September 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 3 London Gateway Motorway Service Area, Greater London: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 20 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 1 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M1 northbound to junction 5 and return.

The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 21 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 5 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 1 and return.

M3 junction 2 (M25), Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M3 northbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 20 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 12 and return.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways, with a free recovery services operating 24 hours a day.

M4 junctions 1 Chiswick to 3 Cranford, Greater London: drainage clearance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out drainage clearance will start this week. Both carriageways will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 19 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for eastbound traffic via the A312 and A4 to M4 junction 1. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for westbound traffic via the A4 and A312 to M4 junction 3.

M4 junction 5 Langley, Berkshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacement continues this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed between the slip roads overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Saturday 24 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

M23 junction 8 (M25), Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M23 southbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 23 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M23 southbound to junction 9 and return.

M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4 and return.

M25 junction 8 Reigate, Surrey: sign maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 22 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9 and return.

M25 junctions 10 (A3) to 11 Chertsey, Surrey: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line continues this week. The clockwise carriageway and junction 10 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 24 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3, A245, A320 and A317 to junction 11.

M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: safety barrier repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out safety barrier repairs will start this week. The clockwise entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9 and return.

M25 junction 17 Maple Cross, Buckinghamshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 18 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 16, M40 eastbound to Denham Roundabout and return.

M25 junction 21 (M1), Hertfordshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M1 junction 8 and return.

The anti-clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 21 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M1 to junction 8 and return.

M25 junction 22 London Colney, Hertfordshire: electrical repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, from Friday 23 September for 3 consecutive nights. Work on Saturday and Sunday will start at 10pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 23 and return.

M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: sign maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 22 and return.

M25 junctions 27 (M11) to 28 (A12), Essex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M11, A406 and A12 to M25 junction 28.

M25 junctions 30 (Thurrock) to 31 (Lakeside), Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

A temporary road layout is in use on the northbound link road between junctions 31 and 30. The layout will remain in place 24/7 to enable the construction of a retaining wall. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys and allow additional time.

The anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 31 and 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 September for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the dedicated link road between junctions 31 and 30.

The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads at junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 23 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads at the junction.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 20 September for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.

M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs continues this week. The dedicated link road from the M40 westbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 20 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M40 junction 2 and return.

A1(M) junction 2 Welham Green, Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 3 and the A1001.

A1(M) junctions 2 Welham Green to 4 Hatfield North, Hertfordshire: tunnel safety check

Work to maintain the safety of the Hatfield Tunnel by carrying out equipment and response tests will start this week. The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4, and the southbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 2, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Saturday 24 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1001.

A1(M) junction 3 Hatfield South, Hertfordshire: white lining

Work to maintain safety by renewing the white lining will start this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 22 September. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 4 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via the A1001 to A1(M) junction 4.

A1(M) junction 4 Hatfield North, Hertfordshire: white lining

Work to maintain safety by renewing the white lining will start this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 21 September. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 6 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 3 and return.

A3 Ockham, Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance continues this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 22 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via B2039 Ockham Road north, Ockham Lane, Downside Road, Downside Bridge Road and the A245.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The eastbound A13 between Wennington (A1306) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 September for 2 nights, and from Friday 23 September for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.

The eastbound A13 entry slip road from M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 21 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the link road to junction 31, A1306 and A1012 to North Stifford.

The westbound A13 exit slip road to M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 23 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place to the Wennington junction and the A1306.

A21 Chipstead, Kent: vegetation cutting and planting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation cutting and planting will start this week. The dedicated link roads from the A21 southbound to the A25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Morley’s Roundabout and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:

  • Monday 19 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 20 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 21 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 22 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 23 September (9.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Saturday 24 September (9pm to 6am) northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 25 September (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel

The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed, overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 September for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Friday 23 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.

A406 Woodford, Greater London: white lining

Work to maintain safety by renewing the white lining will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A406 eastbound to the M11 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 21 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Redbridge Roundabout and return.

A1089 Grays, Essex: white lining

Work to maintain safety by renewing the white lining will start this week. The northbound entry slip road from the A126 Marshfoot Way roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A126 Marshfoot Way and Calcutta Road to the A1089.

B2211 Chevening Road, Kent: bridge joint replacement

Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the B2211 over the M25 in Sundridge will start this week. The bridge on Chevening Road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 20 September for 4 nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place for northbound traffic via the A25, London Road and Morants Court Road to the B2211. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for southbound traffic via Morants Court Road, London Road and the A25.
