The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 12 August 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 3 London Gateway Motorway Service Area, Greater London: road marking

Work to maintain safety by carrying out road marking work continues this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 17 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1 and return.

M3 junctions 3 Lightwater to 2 (M25), Surrey: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 15 August for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322 and A30 to M25 junction 13. The southbound carriageway between junction 3 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 15 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13, A30, A322 to M3 junction 3.

M4 junction 3 Hounslow, Greater London: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing starts this week. The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 19 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A312, A40, M40 and M25 anti-clockwise to the M4.

M4 junction 5 Langley, Berkshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to maintain safety by carrying out bridge joint replacement continues this week. The carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 15 August for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

M11 junction 4 (A406), Greater London: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M11 southbound to the A406 westbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 15 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A406 eastbound to Redbridge Roundabout and return.

The dedicated link road from the M11 southbound to the A406 eastbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 16 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A406 westbound to Waterworks Corner and return.

M25 junction 3 (M20), Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the M20 eastbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 15 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 3 roundabout.

M25 junction 5 (A21), Kent: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A21 spur road northbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 15 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 4 and return.

M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 19 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 4 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 8 and return.

M25 junctions 10 (A3) to Chertsey, Surrey: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line continues this week. The clockwise carriageway and junction 10 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 20 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A3, A245, A320 and A317 to junction 11.

M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week. The dedicated link roads from the M25 clockwise to the M3 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 15 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for M3 southbound traffic via M25 junction 13, A30, A322 to M3 junction 3. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for M3 northbound traffic via the M25 to junction 13 and return.

M25 junction 16 (M40), Buckinghamshire: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections starts this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M40 westbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 16 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40 eastbound to junction 1 and return.

The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 18 August for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 15 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.

M25 junction 24 Potters Bar, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 16 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 23 and return.

M25 junction 25 Enfield, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 19 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.

M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: safety barrier repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out safety barrier repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the M11 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 16 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 28 and return.

M25 junction 29 (A127), Essex: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections will start this week. The northern half of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 15 August for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 28 and return.

M25 junctions 29 (A127) to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 18 August for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A127, A128 and A13.

M25 junctions 30 Thurrock to 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The clockwise (southbound) link road between junctions 30 and 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 15 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A13, Wennington Interchange, A1306 and M25 junction 31.

The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 16 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the link road between junctions 30 and 31.

The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 16 August for 4 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the link road between junctions 31 and 30.

M40 junction 1a, Buckinghamshire: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M40 westbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 16 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for clockwise traffic via M40 junction 2 and return, M25 anti-clockwise to junction 14 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for anti-clockwise traffic via M40 junction 2 and return.

A2 (M25), Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The dedicated link road from the A2 westbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 15 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 2 roundabout.

The dedicated link road from the A2 westbound to the M25 (A282) anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 17 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 2 roundabout, A2 eastbound, B255 and A206 to A282 junction 1a.

A13 Tilbury, Essex: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections starts this week. The dedicated link road from the A13 westbound to the A1089 southbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 15 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and return.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 15 August and Saturday 20 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, A1306, M25 junction 31 and the link road to junction 30.

The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 15 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and Wennington (A1306) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 16 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 and A1306.

A23 London Road North, Merstham, Surrey: gas upgrade

Work by SGN to maintain safety by carrying out gas network upgrades continues this week. One lane (of two) will be closed northbound adjacent to Glebe Road, 24 hours a day, until early-September. A 40mph temporary speed limit will be in place for the duration of the work. A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week.

The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:

  • Monday 15 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 16 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 17 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 18 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 19 August (9.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Saturday 20 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 21 August (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9.30pm and 5.30am, from Friday 19 August for 2 nights. Work on Saturday will start at 9pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.

A282 junctions 1b Dartford to 2 (A2), Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 15 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road at junction 1b and the dedicated link road to junction 2.

A282 junctions 2 (A2) to junction 1a, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 17 August for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A2, B255 and A206 to junction 1a.

A406 Woodford, Greater London: structural inspection

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structural inspections will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A406 eastbound to the M11 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 17 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Redbridge Roundabout and return.

The dedicated link road from the A406 westbound to the M11 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 18 August. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Waterworks Corner and return.
