Planned roadworks in and around the M25: weekly summary for Monday 14 November to Sunday 20 November

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 11 November 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that links the M1 to the M25 continues this week. The dedicated link road from the M1 southbound to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 14 November for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 22 and return.

M1 junction 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: vegetation works

Work to improve journeys by carrying out vegetation work will start this Friday 18 November between 11pm and 6am. The dedicated link road from the M1 southbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M1 junction 6 and the A405 to M25 junction 21a.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: Smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 14 November for four nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 13, A30 and A331.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Monday 14 November for three nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331 and A30 to the M25 junction 13.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 17 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327 and A30 to the M25 junction 13.

The M3 will be closed in both directions between junctions 2 and 3 over the weekend from 9pm on Friday 18 November until 5.30am on Monday 21 November. Clearly signed diversions will be in place:

  • drivers travelling northbound on the M3 heading to the anti-clockwise M25 (for Gatwick, Dartford and Dover) will be diverted via the A331, A31 and A3 to join the M25 at junction 10.
  • drivers travelling clockwise on the M25 heading to the southbound M3 will use this diversion route in reverse.
  • drivers travelling northbound on the M3 heading for the clockwise M25, London or Heathrow Airport will be diverted via the A322, A329M and M4.
  • drivers travelling southbound on the M3 will be diverted via the M25, and the M4, and then the A329M, A33 or A34.

M20 junction 2 Wrotham, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 18 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M20 junction 4 and return, M26 and the A20.

M23 junction 8 (M25), Surrey: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the M23 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 14 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 8 and return.

M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 15 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 4 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 8 and return.

M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the M3 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, on Thursday 17 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the M3 northbound via the M25 to junction 13 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the M3 southbound via the M25 to junction 13, A30 and A331 to M3 junction 4.

M25 junction 17 Maple Cross, Hertfordshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 16 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 18 and return.

M25 junction 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm 5am, on Tuesday 15 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 22 and return.

M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the A1(M) will start this week. The northern half of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 16 November for three nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) to junction 2 and return.

M25 junction 25 Enfield, London: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Wednesday 16 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 24 and return.

M25 junction 26 Waltham Abbey, Essex: sign maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out sign maintenance will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 14 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 25 and return.

The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 16 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 28 and return.

M25 junction 27 (M11), Essex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M11 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 15 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 26 and return.

M25 junction 30/A13 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 14 November for 5 nights, and on Sunday 20 November. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the A13 eastbound via the newly constructed dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the A13 eastbound. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the A13 westbound via the newly constructed dedicated link road from the M25 clockwise to the A13 eastbound, to the A126 and return.

The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 14 November for 5 nights, and on Sunday 20 November. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed pre-diversion will be in place for the A13 via M25 junction 31 and the A1306 to the Wennington Interchange.

The A13 westbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 14 November for 5 nights, and on Sunday 20 November. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the M25 clockwise via the A13 westbound, A1306 and M25 junction 31 roundabout. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the M25 anticlockwise via the A13 westbound to the A1306 and return on the A13 eastbound and the newly constructed dedicated link road from the A13 eastbound to the M25 anti-clockwise.

The A13 eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 14 November for 5 nights, and on Sunday 20 November. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the M25 anti-clockwise via the newly constructed dedicated link road from the A13 eastbound to the M25 anti-clockwise. A clearly signed diversion for the M25 clockwise will be in place via the newly constructed dedicated link road from the A13 eastbound to the M25 anti-clockwise, M25 junction 29 and return.

M25 junctions 31 Lakeside to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The northbound link road between junctions 31 and 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 14 November for 5 nights, and on Sunday 20 November. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the M25 anti-clockwise will be in place via the junction 31 roundabout, A1306, A13 eastbound and the newly constructed dedicated link road from the A13 eastbound to the M25 anti-clockwise. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the A13 via M25 junction 31, A1306 and the A13.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: bridge maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Saturday 19 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30 and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures.

  • Monday 14 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 15 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 16 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 17 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 18 November (9pm to 5.30am) northbound west tunnel
  • Saturday 19 November (8.30pm to 6am) northbound east tunnel
  • Sunday 20 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel

The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 14 November for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm.

The QEII Bridge will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Saturday 19 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the east bore of the Dartford Tunnel.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, on Friday 18 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.

A282 junction 1b Dartford, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 14 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.
