The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 9 October 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M4 junction 4b (M25), Middlesex: signage replacement

Work to keep road users informed by replacing signage will start this week. The eastbound link road to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 6 consecutive nights. Work on Friday night will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 14 and return.

M25 junction 6 Godstone, Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8.

M25 junction 7 (M23), Surrey: drainage work

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will start this week. The anti-clockwise link road to the M23 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6.

The clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M23 southbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 October for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M23/A23 northbound to the roundabout and return.

M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: carriageway surfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out concrete surfacing and fine milling will continue this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 11 and return.

The junction 10 roundabout between the M25 clockwise entry slip road and the anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 15 October for 4 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 9 and return for traffic on the A3 southbound wishing to travel on the M25 clockwise.

M25 junction 12 (M3) Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 October for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 11.

M25 junction 13 Staines, Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 October for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 14 and return.

M25 junction 14 Heathrow (Terminals 4, 5, Cargo), Middlesex: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 15, the M4 eastbound to junction 4.

M25 junction 17 Maple Cross, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 October for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise junction 16, M40 eastbound to junction 1 and return.

M25 junction 18 Chorleywood, Hertfordshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 October for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M25 anti-clockwise junction 16, M40 eastbound to junction 1 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 19.

M25 junctions 19 Watford to 21a St Albans, Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing bridge joints continues this week. The clockwise carriageway including the entry slip roads at junctions 19, 20 and 21 will be closed overnight, between 1am and 9am, on Saturday 17 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41, Hunton Bridge and A405 to M25 junction 21a.

M25 junction 20 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing bridge joints continues this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9.30pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 5 nights. Work on Friday night will start at 10pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 18 and return.

M25 junction 22 London Colney, Hertfordshire: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Friday 16 October for 4 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 23.

M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Saturday 17 October for 2 nights. On Sunday 18 October one lane will be reopened at approximately 1am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the link road to junction 31.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: carriageway resurfacing and structure maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing and structure maintenance will continue this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30.

M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work and routine maintenance will start this week. The westbound link roads to the M25 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 12 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2.

The eastbound link roads to the M25 will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1.

A1(M) junctions 2 Welham Green to 4 Hertford, Hertfordshire: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain journeys by carrying out tunnel maintenance will start this week. The northbound carriageway including the entry slip roads at junctions 2 and 3 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Friday 16 October for 3 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1001.

A1(M) junction 3 Hatfield, Hertfordshire: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing litter will start this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 12 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 4.

A1(M) junction 4 Hertford, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping/litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping and clearing litter will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 13 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) southbound to junction 3 and return.

The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 14 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 3.

A1(M) junction 6 Welwyn, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 14 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) northbound to junction 7 and return.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford and Wennington, including the entry slip roads from the A126 and the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1306.

The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington and North Stifford, including the entry slip road from the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 15 October for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1012.

A20 Swanley, Kent: expansion joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out expansion joint replacement will start this week. The A20 westbound carriageway between the M20 junction 1 to the junction with the B2173 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2173 London Road.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance/Dart Charge construction work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 12 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b.

The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 13 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 1a exit and entry slip roads.

The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8.30pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 14 October for 4 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 9.30pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 16 October. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 1a exit and entry slip roads.

A282 (M25) Dartford-Thurrock crossing: maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures. The closure of the QEII Bridge will divert traffic via the eastern bore of the Dartford Tunnels.

  • Monday 12 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 13 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 14 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Thursday 15 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Friday 16 October (9.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Saturday 17 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 18 October (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel

The QEII Bridge will have 3 (of 4) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 12 October for 5 nights.
