Planned road works in the East Midlands: Weekly summary for Monday 20 April to Sunday 26 April
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 17 April 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M1 junction 19 at Catthorpe, Leicestershire: Major improvement works
Between now and autumn 2016 there will be various hard shoulder, lane or carriageway closures while the new junction is built. On Friday 24 April the M1 northbound and southbound will be closed within M1 junction 19 for bridge works. The closure will be between 9pm and 8am Saturday morning.
M1 junction 15 to 19, Northamptonshire: Central reserve work
Until summer 2015, there will be various restrictions in place to allow for the construction of a reinforced concrete barrier in the central reserve. These include speed restrictions, narrow lanes and hard shoulder running.
M1 junction 21, Leicestershire: Bridge inspection
On Wednesday 22 April from 9pm to Thursday 23 April 6am there will be a southbound carriageway closure. Traffic will be diverted off junction 21 exit slip and able to rejoin carriageway at junction 21 entry slip road.
M1 junction 21, Leicestershire: Bridge inspection
On Wednesday 22 April from 9pm to Thursday 23 April 6am there will be a southbound carriageway closure. Traffic will be diverted off junction 21 exit slip and able to rejoin carriageway at junction 21 entry slip road.
M1 Junction 24
The diversion route for the A50 Westbound closures will be via M1 Northbound, Junction 25 and M1 Southbound, joining the A50 Westbound at Junction 24A.
The diversion route for the A50 Eastbound closure will be via M1 Northbound from Junction 24A, Junction 25 and M1 Southbound to Junction 24.
- On Thursday 23 April the M1 northbound entry slip road will be closed from 8pm to 6am;
- On Thursday 23 and Friday 24 April the M1 northbound exit slip road will be closed each night from 8pm to 6am;
- On Thursday 23 April the A50 eastbound will be closed from M1 junction 24A to junction 24 from 8pm to 6am Friday morning.
M1 junction 24/A50 Approach Economy Scheme
Work to improve the capacity and traffic flows at M1 Junction 24 is nearing completion.

M1 junction 25 to 24A, Derbyshire/Leicestershire: Electrical work
On Monday 20 April from 9pm to Tuesday 21 April 5am there will be a carriageway closure southbound.
M1 junction 28 to 31 and 32 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: Smart Motorway
Until winter 2016 there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the Smart Motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week the following full closures will be in place:
- On Monday 20 April the M1 southbound junction 34 exit slip road will be closed from 8pm to 6am Tuesday morning;
- On Monday the M1 northbound junction 28 entry road slip will be closed from 8pm to 6am Tuesday morning;
- On Tuesday 21 April the M1 northbound junction 34 entry slip road will be closed from 8pm to 6am Wednesday morning;
- On Tuesday the M1 southbound junction 28 entry slip road will be closed from 8pm to 6am Wednesday morning;
- On Saturday 25 April the M1 northbound junction 31 exit slip road will be closed from 8pm to 6am Sunday morning.
M45 Dunchurch to M1 J17, Northamptonshire: Carriageway repairs
From 9 February to 20 May there will be a number of restrictions on the eastbound carriageway including overnight carriageway closures from 8pm to 6am, or 24/7 closures of the hard shoulder and lane one with a 50mph speed limit. During full closures traffic will be diverted via the A45 to Daventry and Weedon to join the M1 at J16.
M69 junction 1 to junction 21 (M1), Leicestershire: Contractor training
On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April there will be mobile lane closures northbound and southbound between 9.30am to 3.30pm.
A1 Beacon Hill road, Coddington, Nottinghamshire: Construction
From 10 March to 11 June there will be a 24/7 exit slip road closure northbound.
A1 Long Bennington, Lincolnshire: Survey work
On Monday 20 April there will be an exit slip road closure northbound from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
A5 Crick to Magna Park, Leicestershire/Northamptonshire/Warwickshire: Diversion route
From the 11 to 25 April there will be a diversion route northbound and southbound between 9pm to 6am due to works being undertaken at junction 19 (M1).
A14 junction 7 to 9, Northamptonshire: Widening
- On Sunday 19 April 8pm to Monday 20 April 6am there will be a closure of the eastbound carriageway;
- Each night from Monday 20 April 8pm to Friday 24 April 6am there will be a closure of the westbound carriageway;
- Each night over the weekend starting Friday 24 April 8pm to Sunday 26 April 8am there will be a closure of the westbound carriageway;
- On Sunday 26 April 8pm to Monday 27 April 6am there will be a closure of the westbound carriageway.
A14 junction 11, Northamptonshire: Survey work
On Saturday 25 April from 8pm to Sunday 26 April 6am the exit slip road at Woodford will be closed.
A45 Skew Bridge to Little Irchester, Northamptonshire: Carriageway repair
On Tuesday 21 April to 12 May there will be a southbound carriageway closure each night from 8pm in the evening until 6am the following morning.
A46 Glenfield to Six Hills, Leicester City/Leicestershire: Litter picking
From 25 April to 17 May there will be mobile lane closures northbound and southbound between 5am and 11.30am each day.
A453 widening from M1 junction 24 to A52: Major improvement work
- On Wednesday 22 April to Friday 24 April the eastbound carriageway from Farnborough Road junction to Silverdale Roundabout will be closed from 8pm to 5.30am each night (9pm to 5.30am on 24 April);
- On Thursday 23 April the eastbound between Green Lane and Farnborough junction will be closed from 8pm to 5.30am Friday morning.
- On Monday 20 April to Friday 24 April there will be a closure of the northbound carriageway of the underpass at West Leake junction, between the south and north roundabouts from 5.30am to 8pm each day;
- On Monday 20 April to Friday 24 April there will be 2 way traffic lights between the north roundabout at Parkway junction and the railway bridge 24 hours a day (10am on 20 April until 1pm on 24 April);
- On Monday 20 April to Friday 24 April there will be a closure of the underpass at West Leake junction, between the north and south roundabouts from 8pm to 5.30am each night;
- On Friday 24 April to Sunday 26 April Green Street (the ‘old’ A453) from Barton Lane to Manor Road will be closed 24 hours per day (closes 6pm on 24 April, reopens 6pm on 26 April).
