The entry slip road to the A45 Stonebridge Highway eastbound carriageway, at Stivichall roundabout, will be closed for five consecutive nights, starting on Wednesday 10 June, for essential roadworks to take place.

The slip road will be closed from 8pm each night until 6am the following morning, with the work due to finish by 6am on Monday 15 June.

During the slip road closures traffic will be diverted around Stivichall roundabout westbound along the A45 to the junction with B4113 St Martin’s roundabout, and back eastwards along the A45.

In addition, the A45 Stonebridge Highway westbound carriageway will be closed for two nights on June 18 and 19 between 8pm and 6am for resurfacing works and the painting of road markings.

On Saturday 20 June, the A45 Stonebridge Highway will be closed in both directions between Tollbar Island and Stivichall junction so that bridge beams for the construction of the pedestrian footbridge over the River Sowe can be safely lifted and installed. The road will be closed from 8pm on 20 June until 6am on 21 June.

During the A45 westbound carriageway closures on 18/19/20 June, drivers will be diverted at Tollbar to the B4110, turning left at the junction with the A4082 before joining the A444 at Whitley. They should then take the first exit off the roundabout and travel along the A444 southbound, joining the A45/A46 at Stivichall junction.

During the A45 eastbound carriageway closure on 20 June, traffic will be diverted off Stivichall Junction to the A444 northbound to Whitley, taking the second exit to the A4082 at Whitley roundabout. At the roundabout with the A4082 Allard Way, drivers should take the fourth exit to the B4110 London Road to Tollbar roundabout.

Project manager Paul Nagra said:

We need to close the slip road from Wednesday evening to ensure the safety of the workforce and drivers who use the road. We will be resurfacing, putting in road markings and undertaking traffic management alterations during this time.

We will be completing more of this work along the A45 Stonebridge Highway westbound carriageway the following week on 18/19 June.

Overnight on Saturday 20 June, we will be using a 750 tonne crane to lift reinforced concrete beams into place to form the footbridge next to the A45 Stonebridge Highway. Given each beam weighs 53 tonnes, we need to close the road to ensure they can be lifted into place safely.

Diversions will be clearly signed ahead of any closures and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys. Further information on the A45/A46 Tollbar End improvement project is available on the Highways England website.
