Press release

Overnight closures on M18 J2 - A1(M) slip road

The Highways Agency is carrying out overnight resurfacing work and road marking on the M18 junction 2 to A1(M) northbound slip roads.

The work, which started overnight on 23 April, requires full closure of the northbound M18 exit slip road and the A1(M) entry slip road and will take place overnight from 8pm to 6am until Saturday 26 April. In addition, lanes 1, 2 and 3 of the motorway will be separately closed and an outer ring closure will be required at junctions 2 and 35.

Highways Agency project manager Tim Calvert said:

Resurfacing the carriageway on these two slip roads will improve the ride quality for road users while the new road markings will improve visibility in the dark or bad weather.

To carry out this work we will need to close both slip roads but to minimise disruption work will be carried out overnight.

During the closures the following diversions will be in place:

  • traffic wishing to exit the M18 northbound at junction 2 with the intention of heading south along the A1(M) will be diverted north along the M18 to junction 3, using the roundabout to rejoin the M18 southbound carriageway where they can join the A1(M) at junction 2

  • traffic wishing to exit the M18 northbound at junction 2 with the intention of using the dedicated slip road to the A1(M) northbound carriageway will be diverted north along the M18, exiting at junction 3 and directed north along A6182 White Rose Way navigating to the A18 where traffic will be directed west along the A630 to junction 36 of the A1(M) where the diversion will end

  • traffic wishing to enter the A1(M) northbound carriageway at junction 35 will be diverted north along the M18, exiting at junction 3 and directed north along A6182 White Rose Way navigating to the A18 where traffic will be directed west along the A630 to junction 36 of the A1(M) where the diversion will end
