Highways England has planned its work to help minimise disruption, and diversions have been designed to keep traffic away from local villages (such as Barton under Needwood).

The first phase of work will start on August 3, on the southbound carriageway of the A38, between the A38/B5016 at Barton under Needwood and the A38/A513 at Alrewas.

The southbound carriageway here will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am from August 3 to August 7, and again on August 10.

A diversion has been set up to take traffic via the A50 eastbound onto the A515, south on the A515 to Lichfield, onto the A5192 and then back to the A38.

Phase two and three will start on the southbound carriageway from the A38 at Alrewas to the A38/A5192, and will involve the closure of junctions between those two points. Work will take place between 8pm and 6am, with overnight carriageway closures from August 11 to 14 and again on August 17.

Traffic will be diverted via the A513 east to the A515, south on the A515 to Lichfield, onto the A5192 and then back to the A38.

The fourth phase will involve an overnight closure on August 18.

The northbound carriageway will be closed between the A38/A513 at Alrewas and the A38/B5016 at Barton under Needwood from 8pm to 6am.

A diversion will take traffic on the A513 east to the A515, onto the A515 north to A50, onto the east on the A50 to the A38/A50 and back to the A38.

All diversions will be clearly signposted.
