Overnight closures for A19 resurfacing in Sunderland

Work to resurface sections of the southbound A19 in Sunderland will begin on Monday 27 July to provide drivers with smoother and safer journeys.

The improvements will be carried out between the A1231 Hylton Grange Interchange and the A183 Chester Road Interchange overnight between 8pm and 6am until Friday 21 August.

Kyle Maylard, Highways England’s project manager, said:

We are carrying out this resurfacing work at night to minimise disruption to road users. It’s essential that the work takes place so that drivers can benefit from smoother and safer journeys.

Diversions will be in place via the A1231, A182 and A183 to rejoin the A19 at the Chester Road Interchange.
