Press release

Overnight closure on A453 as traffic switches to another new section of road

The A453 will be closed tonight (Friday 12 September) to enable contractors to switch traffic on to another new section of carriageway. This will likely affect passengers heading for East Midlands Airport, and they should plan their journeys in advance.

The road will be closed in both directions between M1 junction 24 and the Parkway junction from 9pm to 5am. During that time, vehicles will be redirected to the new westbound carriageway.

The new carriageway will operate as a two-way road rather than dual carriageway until the scheme is complete.

Highways Agency Assistant Project Manager Robin Jackson said:

We advise road users to allow extra time for their journeys during the overnight closure and to take care and pay attention to the new road layout in the morning as there will be a significant change to get used to.

During the overnight closure through traffic will be diverted from M1 junction 24 to junction 25 and along the A52 to its junction with the A453, or vice versa.

Road uses are also reminded that overnight closures of the southern bridge at M1 junction 24 continue throughout September and contractors are still on track to close that part of the junction over the weekend 19 to 22 September.

Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly if they have a flight to catch at East Midlands Airport.
