Press release

Overnight bridge work over M42 near the NEC, Birmingham

The Highways Agency will carry out work on a bridge over the M42 near Birmingham, from 20 May for three nights.

During the work expansion joints, which allow structures to expand and contract with changes in temperature, will be replaced. While it is carried out, the East Way bridge, which is one of the access roads to the NEC, will be closed overnight between its junctions with the East Car Park road and the East Way Roundabout.

Traffic will be diverted via the A45, Stonebridge Island and the M42 junction 6 to access the NEC via South Way, or vice versa.

The work will be carried out from 9pm to 5am with the exception of the night of 22 May when traffic management will not be put in place until midnight due to an event at the NEC.

Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
