Open Forums on the UK's Exit from the European Union

In June, the British Embassy hosted an initial string of four open forums for British people living in the Netherlands.

Open Forum Amsterdam

We had over 200 attendees at meetings in Eindhoven, Maastricht, Amsterdam and The Hague. Through a Facebook Live stream of the meeting in Amsterdam, we reached a wider audience, including those who couldn’t be there in person. During these forums, we promised to keep in touch, starting with a summary of the issues raised. We also undertook to pass this summary back to officials in London and to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And we have done so.

We recognise that the decision to leave the European Union is an emotive subject for many British citizens in the Netherlands, who worry about what it means for them and their families. Those concerns were reflected across all four meetings, where the strength of feeling was clearly felt.

This is the beginning of the process and not the end. We are therefore planning further forums for after the summer break and will announce these as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please continue to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, as well as the website, where we will continue to post further information and announcements.
