Open Day at The British Ambassador’s Residence in Sofia

Ambassador Jonathan Allen opens the doors of his Residence to visitors to mark the centenary of the iconic building.

The British Ambassador’s Residence in Sofia, 36 Vasil Levski Boulevard, opens its doors on 7 June, Saturday, 10 am-4 pm, to mark the 100th anniversary of the spectacular building. British Ambassador Jonathan Allen and his family will host an interactive and family-friendly event, which will celebrate the strong British-Bulgarian relations and the common historical, cultural and heritage connections between the British and Bulgarian people. The Open Day will be dedicated to the theme “100 Years” and is part of the series of the events going throughout 2014 to mark the centenary.

Highlights include:

  • The Residence reception rooms and the outstanding garden with traditional British flowers and a tree planted by Prince Charles in 1998 will be open to visitors, with garden plans available
  • Exhibition of never-before-seen photos of the Residence and the garden throughout the years
  • Book stall where the first book about the Residence will be presented and available for sale, and a tea stall with traditional British cake and tea. Both will be sold for charity
  • Presentation of the 100 Years UK in BG blog, where British nationals who have lived or are still living in Bulgaria, share stories about their most vivid memories of Bulgaria and Bulgarian life
  • Shakespeare performances on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the playwright’s birth
  • Iconic British landmarks and images will be displayed in the house
