Next-generation CCTV: apply for contracts

Organisations can apply for a share of up to £150,000 for an improved, flexible, public space CCTV system for South Ayrshire.

Closed circuit CCTV camera

South Ayrshire Council has up to £150,000 to invest in projects that look at ways of making its future CCTV systems more flexible and better able to provide safety and security for its community.

The council wants to investigate a system that is self-powered, suitable for fixing simply and easily to many different surfaces and meets existing and new data protection regulations.

Funding for the competition is under the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI).

Systems must be simple and flexible

Projects are expected to develop ideas for a system that:

  • does not rely on a power supply or power replacement
  • uses several recognised transmission methods such as internet, cloud, wireless or network, and can transmit HD images
  • can be swiftly and simply fixed to a variety of surfaces, ideally by a single person
  • is robust and at low risk of vandalism
  • has pan-tilt zoom
  • meets data protection regulations

Successful projects could go on to share up to £300,000 to develop a prototype in a second phase.
