Due to the Insolvency Rules 2015 changes, from 6 April an individual in debt can make an application for their own bankruptcy without having to go through the courts. This will be managed by a new service on GOV.UK.

From 6 April, people in debt will be able to access a new bankruptcy application form on GOV.UK. The Insolvency Service has published the first part of this service giving information and options to help people deal with unmanageable debt.

Our new service will receive the bankruptcy application data from The Insolvency Service, which we will enter automatically onto our Bankruptcy Register.

We’ve also developed a new casework management system to process Land Charges applications, creditors’ bankruptcy applications and all writs and orders which we will continue to receive from the Courts.

Debtors’ bankruptcy registration entries appearing on Full or Bankruptcy search results will no longer refer to the courts. They will refer to the Adjudicator’s Office instead. Office Copies of these registrations will also look different as there will be no scanned images to provide customers.
