The new CEO of the British Council worldwide, Ciarán Devane, is visiting Sub Saharan Africa for the first time in his new role. He has chosen Uganda as the destination for his first visit to the region, and he will see at hand the British Councils programmes in the country.
On the first day of his visit, accompanied by British Council Uganda Country Director Peter Brown, board member Rohan Gunatillak and Deputy Director for Sub Saharan Africa Hugh Moffat, Sir Ciarán held a meeting with Hon. Jessica Alupo, Ugandan Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Sports. He later toured the British Council Uganda offices and met staff.
Ciarán Devane took up the role of Chief Executive of the British Council in January 2015. He was previously Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Support and is a trustee of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and a Non-Executive Director of NHS England and of Social Finance Ltd. Ciarán Devane was awarded a knighthood in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
