Minister welcomes Guinea Presidential election progress

Foreign Office Minister Henry Bellingham has welcomed the first round of Presidential elections in Guinea.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Speaking today, Mr Bellingham MP said:

“I welcome the first round of Presidential elections in Guinea on 27 June. The peaceful voting process demonstrates the overwhelming demand of the population for a return to constitutional order. I commend the work of the Guinea authorities in bringing about the election in such a short timeframe.

I urge all political leaders to respect the results as released by the Electoral Commission, and use legal means to address any concerns they may have.

I welcome the work of the European Union Electoral Observation Mission and the contribution of national and international observers. I call on all parties to continue to ensure an atmosphere of peace and stability during this crucial period of the transition process”
