Minister for Europe meets Moldovan Prime Minister

Minister for Europe David Lidington met Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat on 27 July ahead of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

They discussed Moldova’s impressive progress in negotiating an Association Agreement and a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. They also discussed the implementation of Moldova’s ambitious programme of political, economic and social reforms, human rights issues, and ongoing efforts to achieve a sustainable settlement on Transnistria.

The Minister for Europe reiterated the UK’s view that EU membership should be open to all European partners able and willing to meet the necessary political and economic accession criteria.
