Commenting on reports of aerial bombardments in Yida in South Sudan and Bew Quaffa in the border area, Minister for Africa Henry Bellingham said:

“I am greatly concerned at aerial bombardments carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces in South Sudan. I condemn these actions that have once again put civilian lives at risk, and reiterate my call for all aerial bombardment in the border areas to cease immediately.

Such actions will only serve to deepen tension and mistrust between Sudan and South Sudan. I urge both sides to exercise restraint and refrain from military activity in each other’s territory.”
