Press release

M5 northbound near Gloucester closed overnight for bridgeworks

Road users are advised that the M5 between junctions 11a and 12 will require closures this weekend as part of essential maintenance at Gloucester Painswick Bridge.

The M5 northbound will be closed between 10pm on Saturday, 27 September and 6am on Sunday, 28 September.

From 10pm on Sunday, September 28 the northbound carriageway will be closed, re-opening at 6am on Monday, 29 September.

Project sponsor, Dave Frampton said,

We are delighted to announce that phase three of these works has finished a month early and these closures are being put in place to allow traffic management to change for the final phase of the scheme.

We’d like to thank road users for their patience while we carry out this important work.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place for both closures.

Road users travelling north on the M5 will be advised to leave the motorway at junction 12, then follow the A38 northbound, then the A417 westbound from the Barnwood roundabout, then take the first exit signposted A417 at the C&G roundabout and the fourth exit at Elmbridge Court roundabout towards the A40 for Cheltenham before rejoining the M5 at junction 11.

Road users travelling south on the M5 should follow the same route in reverse.

Full details and regular updates on the works, including videos and photos, can be found on our dedicated M5 Gloucestershire Bridge Works Facebook page.
