UK strengths in powertrain engineering and low carbon innovation mean it has an opportunity to seize a global advantage as existing technologies and supply chains are replaced by new ones.
The APC was set up in 2013 by the government and the automotive industry to ensure the UK is a global centre of excellence in these new technologies.
It is working in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Innovate UK to support innovative projects. This is the fourth round of funding. Around £90 million has already been allocated to more than 50 organisations in the first three rounds.
Projects must be based around one or more propulsion technology areas:
internal combustion engines
lightweight powertrain structures
electric machines and power electronics
energy storage and energy management
alternative propulsion systems
large businesses can attract up to 50% funding of costs, medium-sized businesses 60% and small businesses 70%
each project must include a vehicle manufacturer or a tier 1 supplier and an SME
we expect total project costs to be between £5 million and £40 million and for projects to last between 18 and 42 months
applications must be made to Innovate UK
the deadline for registration is noon on 24 June 2015
a briefing event takes place at the APC hub on 15 May 2015
