Lord Lieutenant for the County Borough of Londonderry

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Dr Angela Garvey as Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the County Borough of Londonderry.

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Dr Angela Garvey as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the County Borough of Londonderry to succeed Sir Donal Keegan KCVO OBE when he retires on 8 October 2013.

Biographical notes

Dr Angela Garvey was born in 1953. She is a consultant in palliative care medicine at Algnagelvin Hospital and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh and London. She retired from her consultant’s post in May 2013.

Dr Garvey is a member of the Association of Palliative Care Medicine GB and Ireland and a member of the Irish Association for Palliative Care and the European Association for Palliative Care. She has established close working relationships with Foyle Hospice, fostering integration of voluntary and statutory specialist palliative care services, and has been involved with local community groups in a project to raise awareness of palliative and end of life care issues.

Dr Garvey was appointed a deputy lieutenant in November 2004.
