Lord-Lieutenant for Cumbria

Queen appoints Mrs Claire Hensman as Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Cumbria.

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Mrs Claire Hensman as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Cumbria to succeed Sir James Cropper, KCVO when he retires on 22 December 2012.

Biographical Notes

Claire Hensman was High Sheriff in 2007-08 and is a member of the Council of the High Sheriffs’ Association. She has focussed her energies on education and health, currently as a Board member of the University of Cumbria and previously on the Council and as Deputy Pro-Chancellor of Lancaster University. She was also a Non-executive Director of Westmorland Hospital NHS Trust. In the charitable sector, she has concentrated on the marginalised, working for disabled and disadvantaged young people, prisoners and those with alcohol and drugs problems.

Mrs Hensman lives near Kendal with her husband, Peter, and has two daughters and one son.
