Libyan British Business Council

On 12 October, Alistair Burt, FCO Minister for Middle East spoke at the AGM of the Libyan British Business Council.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

In his speech, Mr Burt described the transformation in UK-Libya relations over the past ten years.

Mr Burt reiterated the UK’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with Libya on a range of priority areas including security, managing migration and trade. Whilst noting our difficult past, and the need to resolve several outstanding legacy issues, Mr Burt emphasised that:

“… the removal of international sanctions has stimulated investment and created new opportunities for bilateral trade. This has helped to create jobs for British citizens both in the UK and in Libya.”
