A housewife from Leigh has won a brand new car worth over £10,000 after renewing her vehicle tax online.
A housewife from Leigh has a good reason to celebrate after winning a brand new car from DVLA worth over £10,000.
Margaret Houghton, aged 50 taxed her car using the DVLA online system and was automatically entered into a free prize draw to win of three SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive 1.4 TDI cars that are given away each month by the Agency, to encourage people to use its online or telephone services to tax or SORN vehicles.
Mrs Houghton received a letter notifying her of the good news a few weeks after she had taxed her car, but she didn’t take it seriously and did nothing about it.
Mrs Houghton, who was presented with her car at IMG, Bewsey Road, Warrington on 20 July, said:
When I received the letter from DVLA I didn’t believe it, I thought someone was playing a joke on me so I put the letter to one side and forgot about it. It was only when I received a second letter and a phone call from DVLA reminding me that I’d won I realised it was genuine. It didn’t take me long after that to complete and sign the winner*s declaration and return it so that I could claim my prize!
I have an old car at the moment and it costs quite a lot in tax and petrol so winning an ecomotive car is brilliant as it will save me money.
Using the online or telephone services to tax or SORN vehicles only takes four minutes and you don’t need to find your MOT or insurance documents as DVLA automatically check them for you. The services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Mrs Houghton added:
My husband usually taxes the car and he always chooses to do it online because it is quick, easy, and simple to use. The email confirmation that you receive once the payment for the disc has gone through provides good reassurance for the customer - you know the disc is on its way!

The SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive was chosen for the prize draw because it met DVLA’s criteria (cars provided free of charge for a monthly prize draw, NCAP Safety Standards, low emissions, car tax bands A or B).
The prize draw initiative is part of a marketing strategy, to encourage motorist to use DVLA’s Electronic Vehicle Licensing system, which has won both National and European Business Awards.
