Sellafield Ltd's Engineering Centre of Excellence in Cleator Moor
Kinship care is when family or friends step up – often during an unexpected crisis – to care for a child when their parents aren’t able to.
Our engineering centre of excellence holds several of these events each year, reaching families in the community with children who might not have the same access to opportunities as their friends or classmates.
It was buzzing with fun activities for children and adults including the world’s largest Pacman game, a magic mirror and a magnet marble run.
Visitors could also explore the centre, learn more about the engineering breakthroughs being made there and meet the people, machines and robots that make it all possible.
But the star of the show was the rodeo sheep ride, with children and adults queuing to test their skills.
Morgan, aged 9, said:
I found the day exciting. It was awesome because there were so many activities. The best was the ninja fruit chopping VR and the sheep you had to hold on to!
Phoenix, aged 6 said:
It was cool because I got a dinosaur tattoo. My favourite bit was the duck hunt. I found a big one by looking really hard and I won a drone! I found the duck first time; I can’t believe it.
Kinship Carer Mike James said:
The team at the centre have once again made a great difference to local families, happy children of all ages running around trying out different activities. Even a few of the carers having fun and trying something.
The team provided a fantastic time for the children, their enthusiasm, support and the activities make such a difference to all of us. This sort of support to local people cannot be underestimated.
An old Scout leader once said to me ‘if one child goes away happy because you provide an activity for them, you make a difference.’ Today you made dozens of us happy’.
