Indo-UK workshop on development of affordable medical technologies

The workshop is being held in Chennai on 11 March 2014.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

India currently imports over 75% of its medical technology. But the US $2.75 billion market is expanding because of improved healthcare delivery, financing mechanisms and changing patient profile. Key challenges include affordability and accessibility. There will be two sessions at this workshop - affordable healthcare and diagnostics.

Sessions on affordable healthcare will cover:

  • cardiology
  • orthopaedics
  • ophthalmology
  • advanced wound management

Sessions on diagnostics will cover:

  • in-vitro diagnostics
  • radiotherapy and imaging

The workshop will also explore how UK-India funding can address some of the challenges and build on some of the opportunities.

The workshop is targeted at public and private sector experts from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry - CEOs, managers and academicians from Central/ State government, leading Hospitals, research institutions and medical technology companies from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry. There will be opportunities to network with the experts and meet the UK delegation.
