Important safety message to participants of the Budapest-Bamako Rally

Throughout the year, road rallies take place through North Africa, including to areas where the UK recommends against travel. We want to ensure that you are aware of the advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

You should know that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against all travel to much of Mauritania, Mali and Niger. The routes planned by rally organisers may include roads where kidnaps have previously taken place.

The Foreign & Commonwealth website contains specific advice for anyone participating in rallies across North Africa as well as detailed advice by country. The threat of kidnapping is very real in these countries and further kidnap attacks are likely.

Whatever your route we strongly recommend that you register your travel plans with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office using our LOCATE service.
