Human Rights Council 34: UK Explanation of Voting on the Resolution on Foreign Debt
This UK statement was delivered during discussion of the resolution during the 34th session of the Human Rights Council on 23 March 2017.
The UK continues to believe that it is important for the Human Rights Council to maintain a focused approach in fulfilling its mandate to promote and protect human rights. The UK does not believe that the Human Rights Council s the correct forum to discuss foreign debt. This resolution falls outside the mandate of the Council and duplicates other international discussions on the issue.
For this reason, the UK will call a vote on this resolution and vote no.
