HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s visit on Thailand-UK Science and Innovation Partnership
HRH Princess Sirindhorn chaired the opening of the exhibition “Thailand-UK Science and Innovation Partnership”.
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn paid a visit to the Residence of the British Ambassador to celebrate the Thailand-UK Science and Innovation Partnership. On arrival, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was presented with a flower garland by Mrs. Martine Delogne, wife of Mr Mark Kent, British Ambassador to Thailand who, along with Dr Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Science and Technology, presented reports on the Thailand-UK Science and Innovation partnership.
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn chaired the opening of the exhibition “Thailand-UK Science and Innovation Partnership” at the Residence. Mr Andrew Glass, Director of British Council Thailand presented the projects his organisation is currently running in Thailand, such as ‘FameLab’, an annual programme to help scientists communicate their ideas to a wider audience, and ‘Inspiring Science’, a project which involves the Ministry of Education, Sheffield Hallam University and BG Thailand.
The exhibitions in the Residence garden showcased the achievements of the Thailand-UK collaboration on astronomy and astrophysics, joint rice research, the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, the Mahidol-NSTDA-Imperial College Collaborative Programme, the Thailand-UK development of the ‘2050 Pathways Calculator’ to help tackle climate change, and the SCG-Oxford Centre of Excellence for Chemistry.
Thailand and the UK have a long-established, close and strong partnership on science and innovation. In January 2015, the Newton UK-Thailand Research and Innovation Partnership Fund was launched to support world class joint research and innovation. The Fund aims to strengthen Thailand’s science and innovation capacity, whilst unlocking wider opportunities for collaboration between UK and Thai institutions, researchers and innovators. The UK and Thailand have committed up to £20 million over five years for science, research and innovation collaboration.
