Home Secretary reappoints Professor Sir David Metcalf CBE as chairman of the Migration Advisory Committee

Originally appointed in August 2007, Sir David will continue to chair the MAC until August 2016.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The MAC advises the government on migration issues. It is a non-statutory, non-departmental public body sponsored by the Home Office.

David Metcalf has been chairman of the MAC since its establishment. During this time he has been instrumental in its work, leading on and contributing to MAC reports, of which 22 have been completed to date.

These reports are produced in response to commissions from the government and cover issues such as the impacts of immigration, the limits on immigration under the Points Based System and on skill shortages within occupations.

Sir David is Emeritus Professor at the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics and has been a visiting professor at Princeton University and the Australian National University.

He is a member of the Senior Salaries Review Body which recommends pay for judges, top military, senior civil servants, MPs and senior NHS managers. He was awarded the CBE in the 2008 New Years Honours list and a Knighthood in the 2013 Birthday Honours.
