The British High Commission, Belmopan, invites young Belizean women ages 15 to 18 to enter a competition to be High Commissioner for a Day.

What is High Commissioner for a Day?

Ever dreamt of experiencing the dynamic world of diplomacy firsthand? Here’s your chance! The British High Commission in Belize is thrilled to invite aspiring leaders aged 15 to 18 to enter our exclusive competition and become a High Commissioner for a Day.

Why should you enter this competition?

The High Commissioner for a Day competition presents a unique opportunity for a young Belizean woman to gain invaluable insights into diplomacy through contributing to discussions on shaping a more inclusive and equitable future.

As a High Commissioner for the day, you will play a vital role in amplifying the next generation’s voice, creating lasting connections, and contributing to the UK’s values of diversity and equity.

By entering, you become an integral part of the UK’s commitment to fostering positive relationships, promoting gender equality, and building a responsible international partnership with Belize.

It is a chance to boost your confidence, learn some new leadership skills, and develop an improved sense of civic responsibility that will shape your future endeavors.

Who can enter?

To enter you must:

  • be a Belizean
  • identify as a girl or woman
  • aged 15 to 18 years old
  • be available to participate in a full day of activities with us at the British High Commission in Belmopan on 10 April 2024

How to enter?

To enter, you must submit a 1-minute video responding to the following question: If you were High Commissioner, what would your priorities be and how would you contribute to creating an inclusive society?

Important tips:

  • this competition will highlight the importance of female roles. The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is “Inspire Inclusion”
  • creativity will be an important judging criterion
  • the competition’s panel will be diverse, representing different backgrounds to ensure a fair and inclusive evaluation process
